i was thinking 600$ seemed excessive as well. My huge treadstone intercooler is 390$.

^my fear was that the cheaper cores out there will leak or break, so I was more interested in brand names or recommended types. I was typing on my phone so I was asking for a link right then.

I still find it hard to find the FMIC at that price. Google does that fregging location crap or something because I rarely see quality FMIC for under 400. I dont really need a bigger one now that meth is being introduced. I just didnt want to add alternative fuels into the mix. Just a pain to make sure its all there and ready. But I guess thats a sacrafice I have to make with so much SC power.

guy said LTH runners are 2ich into a big 5-6 inch with a 3inch outlet, but he wasnt sure (not a car guy at all). I put a call into hills and ask them the type, brand, size. If he doesnt like them or think their cheap, he wont install them. lol. They were already on this guys car who just got the GTM TT kit on a G35, pulles are with 420HP+TQ to the wheels.

also these did cost me something. he needed a 305/25/20 and I had a new Falken 452 in the garage. so I gave it to him. What goes around comes around.

http://www.treadstoneperformance.com...A+Intercoolers

most of those are under 300$ and very high quality.

i'm running the trv259 series with 650hp.

I think the TR11 is similar but just larger than the vortech. 250$

http://www.treadstoneperformance.com...11+Intercooler

tr12 comes in 4.5" thick but i was looking mostly at things that would fit you crash bar. i saw ditch crash bar, run the appropriately sized intercooler

I just installed the largest FMIC they ^^^ offer for a 76mm turbo kit:

Specs on the above (4.5" core):

http://www.treadstoneperformance.com...12+Intercooler

This is the standard FMIC with the BP kit, the one binder is talking about on his car:

Specs on the above:

The way I run the IC piping the crash bar has to be removed, but it is not a big deal. You already bought a new unit so I guess it is too late. For what it's worth these cores have been proven to work well.

my filter sits right where your intake side of the IC is. Ill have to go do some math over the weekend. I have a PowerLabs type of set up for my intake to the Votech. Cuts through just like the pic above, but there is room to raise it up a bit if needed.

glad I orderd the rubber pipe and not the hard one now! incase I need to flex it a bit to shove the bigger IC in.

The picture of the first (horizontal) FMIC I posted is somewhat custom because I ordered the core and the end tank seperate. You can flip the driver side end tank and it would work just fine with the Vortech.

FYI the build goal was 500rwhp.

so we thought the 900 rated 3.5 IC would hold the temps in the FMIC to a minimum running around 16-18psi

well the car put down tons more than we thought with the factory manifolds so the headers and a larger IC should bring the boost down to were I want it, around 20psi.

Treadstone IC sittinig in cart to check out =wife pissed off until I sell the old one!

want to do one last measurement before I pulle the plug
lol but not lol

Again thanks to this community for the research and R&D, im telling you in 6 years in this game I have NEVER seen IC that cheap!

Tall=11.75
Thick = 3.5 in
Length = 24 in

so the treadstone is one inch shorter but one inch thicker throughout yeilding 980hp

the one I have now is rated 700: TurboXS front mount intercooler for the EVO VIII, MR, RS cars. The Front Mount Intercooler is a bar and plate design for maximum efficiency. The core can handle up to 700 wheel horsepower. The kit uses the factory or factory style intercooler piping. Includes polished end tanks and mounting brackets for easy fitment. No cutting is necessary.

but thats on a 4 banger, not sure if that matters. lol

daum close decision. I am running meth!

Thoughts on the shorter 4.5 vs the thinner but longer 3.5 IC?
thanks again all, trying to dial this thing in the right way.

well a thicker core would be less prone to heat soak, but 3.5 isn't THAT thin, and a larger surface area would technically be better. I'd go with the 4.5 too though

also more prone to overheat your car because of blocked radiator. GTRs are having this problem alot now with their AMS intercooler.

with the inlet that low and the end tank so shallow how does the air make a 90* turn and go up to the top of the intercooler?
