Default Moving to Savannah!!!! Give me some tips and shout-outs!

So there is a 99% chance that I'm moving with my boyfriend to Savannah, GA in 2 weeks and I'm a little nervous and a LOT excited!!! I'd love to hear from anyone and everyone familiar with the area. Seriously, please share any advice or experiences. We'll be relocating somewhere near-ish to Abercorn St.

What's fun and/or tourist-y to do around there? Where are the best eats? Any tips on apartments to check out? What to avoid? What should I know about hurricane season? What are the reputations of the local colleges/universities? Jobs w/ good benefits that'd work around a class schedule? What are the chances I'll be eaten by an alligator? Who's local?

Jarred is planning a track day for Roebling Road: https://my350z.com/forum/south-east/324300-roebling-road-anyone-feeler.html so be sure to check it out if you're interested and throw out tips on there, too. It'd be fun to meet some fellow my350zians.

I'm so freakin' excited I can barely contain myself. We poked around for a couple hours while we were there, and Savannah is GORGEOUS!!!!

um, dump the bf and stay in the upstate of GA.

Savannah: tons of crime and a beach. Downtown is full of tourist and crappy drivers on narrow streets. I like tybee beach, but its starting to get a little crowded in the summer.

I live on Hilton Head when I'm not at school, but I've been to Savannah more times than I can count. Historic downtown is nice, but there are definitely some seedy areas if you start to get towards the outskirts of town. Its a nice place to live, and I'm sure you'll like it.

Hmmm... I'm hearing "crime" and "seedy"... feeling better about my decision to get a gun and a permit to carry already. Not that I'm planning to hang out in the sketchy areas, but a girl can't be too careful.

Me and the Mrs. will be happy to escort you two around town for a night of fun. Things are not as bad as everyone says, but like any place you have bad areas.

Savannah pretty laid back, gotta kinda think small town only slightly larger. But any place that let's you walk around in public with 24oz of you favorite drink has my vote!

Jarred is working with us here so he know who we are.

Cheers,
Mike

Lots of antique shops around Mrs. Wilkes place, Bonaventure Cemetary, Johnny Mercer’s home on Monterrey Square where they filmed Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. The Telfair Museum has the “bird girl” from the cover of the book. And there is the Lady Chablis from the movie but I don’t know which nightclub she/he is at. Or maybe the square that they filmed Forrest Gump in. Go to Johnny Harris’s for steak. The art school has a shop where they sell student made stuff, I think it is in the square catty cornered from the courthouse. Tell him to go down Victory Drive and look at the old homes. Daffin Park is pretty.
Pirate's house for dinner, Savannah Tea Room for lunch, Miss Wilkes' Boarding house for lunch.
