OK- that explanation helped me understand much better. If you spin to the inside of T1, there are concrete barriers to keep cars from sliding across and having a worse HEAD ON crash at Spectator Hook. He must have spun quite a way to get into that barrier (I don't recall ever seeing any race cars spin that far EVER). This also points out the risk of getting slip angles beyond 5-7 degrees. It is usually slower and can also result in a catastrophic loss of control.
On another topic, I was impressed with how the Time Trial format has evolved from where I saw it a few years ago. The 30 minute 'race' session was a marked improvement from the limited laps allowed just a few years ago. This really allowed you to work into some serious speed and even see where others mistakes or lines went. My favorite time was chasing down the red Viper (current model) in my session. His 500 HP was no joke on the straightaways, but the Z really eroded his lead under braking and through the turns. After a few laps, he was considerate enough to see I was catching him and pulled over on the back straight. Felt great to go flying by, but he got his revenge by following me and eventually beating my time by a tenth. But that was an EXPENSIVE tenth of a second!
