I'm sure everyone has their own source for weather updates, but just in case you've missed this one:

David, maybe we should just send you down a couple of days early. If you drive around the track REALLY fast, maybe the vortex you create around the track will make time speed up, and those 58 degree sunny temps that Don's forecast shows for next Thursday will actually happen in La Junta on Sunday, 4 days ahead of schedule!

It's nice to know the backup date is there if we need it, because I know that none of us would like to see any of our Zs damaged on a drive that the weather conditions give them no reason to be out in. As for me personally, I have to attend a formal event for my wife's work next Saturday night that would preclude me from driving down on Saturday, and would make it a logistical 'challenge' to make it down there early on Sunday (although not one that couldn't be overcome).

Awesome!!! I always wanted to be on a racetrack in the snow! Imagine the cool drifting we could do, not mention taking the car off some sweet jumps!

i think i'm going to have to declare myself "out" for this one--i'll keep watching the board in case the backup date is used.

Now if we're talkin' sci-fi here, let's put some of that advanced technology to work. How about if we CLONE Gary and have his clone attend that formal party! Hell yeah! That could come in handy from time-to-time!! LOL

As I write this Wednesday night, the Big Chill is on. I'll check with the LaJunta track manager tomorrow and get the skinny on the weather down south. Then we'll make a 'go-no go' decision based on this. Again, stay tuned!

This doesn't look to promising. Hope the forecast changes.

Default cancellation for 2/18-19; reschedule for 2/25-26

Talked to the LaJunta track manager tonight and they got snow today. Even worse, the temps throughout the weekend are forecast to be below freezing. Besides slick roads up and back, it's no fun to be facing ground blizzards on the eastern plains, so I'm sorry to announce that this weekend's track event is CANCELLED.

On the plus side, the advance forecast for the following weekend looks positively tropical, with temps rising up to the 50's on Saturday the 25th. I realize this delay will be a disappointment for some, but compromising safety and freezing our a$$s off isn't worth it. As for the other Z drivers who were busy this weekend, your wishes have come true! We'll keep the same schedule in leaving for LaJunta on Saturday (2/25) and running our track event the following day.

For those with hotel reservations, don't forget to cancel and change the dates. Stay warm (and work on that car in your garage) this weekend and please confirm if you're in for next weekend.

Robert- When you first posted your Dyno day, I hoped we wouldn't have any conflicts. But if you look at the first post in this thread (dated WAY back in December '05), you'll see that in my original post, I stated the backup date for this track day would be the following weekend, 2/26.

Why schedule for these two weekends? It's after the holiday and football seasons and before the weather gets WORSE in March. I even expressed some initial interest in your Dyno day, but couldn't commit because I had to wait and see what the weather would do.

Best of luck for your event, I may even stop by on my way south before we meet up for LaJunta. I also think most of the participants will want to do one or the other event. It's also the first time that Colorado Z enthusiasts will have two great events to choose from!

Yeah... I remember. I don't think we have too many people that want to dyno and track anyhow. Only one I can think of is Will. Got a big chooice. In all honesty I would rather go to La Junta but since I set the Dyno Day I'll be there. Is La Junta a 2 day event? If so I might have to drive down Saturday night or Sunday morning to run.
Best of luck to all that go to La Junta.

I agree that it would be a bad idea to tempt fate and try to make it down there this weekend. I'm in for the backup date next weekend, but I won't be able to drive down early on Saturday with the rest of the group. Once my prior commitments are done on Saturday night, though, I'll be heading down so as to not have to get up early enough on Sunday morning to make it down there in time.

RobertK - technically it's a one-day event, with the track driving taking place on Sunday. Several of us are going down the day before, though, to maximize track time and make the overall day a little more bearable, as we've learned from experience that driving to La Junta, doing a full day of tracking, and then driving back, all in one day, can make for a VERY long day!

Postponing this event is a no-brainer. We had a few inches of snow down here in CS yesterday and more is falling today. Put me in the "maybe" catagory again for next week.

Let's see...shall we make the rest of the country jealous? Where else in the WORLD do you have the chance to dyno on a Saturday-take a drive with the Z-do a track day on Sunday-ALL for under $100!?

Maybe Robert K and the other dyno day participants should follow Resolute's lead and just follow him to LaJunta. The early projections for Sunday the 26th, is for the weather to be in the 60's with NO chance of snow!

Will whatcha doing? Drving down Saturday night or Sunday morning? Maybe we can convoy down together. I don't know if I can afford a hotel room.

Ooooh! I'm get all excited!!!! LOL I'll read more from pervious post but what was the cost and we do need a DOT helmet correct? Does anyone have an extra I could borrow or possibly purchase at a cheap price. Money is tight these days.

I'm planning on going down Sun morning still. It's not that bad of a drive from the Springs, and I just don't feel like springing for a hotel room. I like sleeping in my own bed whenever I can.
You'll need a helmet, and I strongly recommend upgrading your brake pads, the stck ones will start to fade after a couple of laps, and that's no fun to have to pit and let them cool off every 4 or 5 laps. Hope to see you there and I'll def see you on Sat for the dyno day.

I'm was thinking the same for drving down Sunday morning. Thats money saved IMO. Plus living in Fountain is not as far as Denver. Wanna meet somewhere in Fountain to cruise together. It will be just me since the wife doesn't get into motorsports as much as me. As far as a helmet and pads money is really tight. Any suggestion on pads though. I can start searching the internet for the cheapest place to order and get them here by thursday/friday to install them. Would you mind giving me a hand installing them? I found four hands are better than two.

I am about to try Cobalt Friction's GT Sport pad. They should arrive today. I would recommend them or some EBC RedStuff pads from Courtesy Nissan. I don't have the phone #'s for either but they are easily found with a search on Google. Let me know when they come in and I'd be glad to give you a hand with the install. It is much quicker with two people, plus we can bleed your brakes if you want. Valvoline synth is a good cheap fluid that will hold up better on the track than the factory fill if you haven't bled them already. Let me know!

Dave: Thanks for the update on the new schedule. Unfortunately, I will not be able to make it as I have plans for snowboarding that weekend. How do you see the summer schedule for another HPDE? Thanks again.

Everyone have a great time and be safe.
David
