Robert_K - Glad you'll be able to make it! Like Will said, just pay attention to how those pads are doing, and you'll be fine. As one who has experienced the onset of brake fade on the Z, I can tell you that it can come up without warning, and it ain't no fun! Running 4 laps at a time you'll probably be fine (although you might find that you'll need to replace your pads soon after the track day), but it will definitely be something to pay attention to, especially later in the day.

And just to set expectations based on your comment above about racing with other cars and learning passing skills, we won't be out there racing with each other...while there will be several cars on track at once, there won't be any corners contested or banzai-outbraking maneuvers. The passing rules that we set up are put in place so that everybody can go at their own speed, without holding others up or getting held up for more than about half a lap. We typically only have passing on the long straight, so it's really no different than passing on the freeway. Not trying to be a downer, but just didn't want you to come out thinking that there was going to be any actual racing or dicing going on. This is all about high speed car control and having fun with limited risk. And believe me, there will be plenty to learn without having to worry about pulling off advanced pass set-up and overtaking maneuvers. It's going to be a LOT of fun.

Will - Sorry to hear Cobalt won't be getting you those pads on time. But I have to say I'm not surprised...while I've had good experience with their product, I've had abysmal experience with their order fulfillment and general business processes. I've currently got an order in with them myself for some backup pads for LaJunta, just in case. I'll be curious to see if they arrive when they told me they would. I don't have high hopes.

One week from today, we'll all be down in sunny LaJunta at our own private racetrack!!!

Thanks for info! I didn't think it was going to be some NasCar or F1 racing but was wondering about passing with others. I'm really excited but patient to learn new skills. As far as pads I think I will order a set after the first, pay day. Just wished I had the money right now to get them.

Will, Do you think I should at least change the break fluid? If so, can I request your help as I have never change break fluid before. Thanks!!!

Sure, I am busy with scool most of the week, but Fri night or Sat would work. Let me know if either of those days is cool and I'll come down to your place. I recommend a big Liter bottle of Valvoline Syntech, it's pretty cheap but way better than what's in there now. David and Gary both are using the stuff I think.

How about Friday night than since we'll be leaving a bit early Saturday for the Dyno Day. Also, I can pick the fluid up at any local auto parts store right?

Yeh, any auto store will have some. Friday night sounds good. Let's say we meet at your place at 7?

Sound good to me. I'll pick some fluid up today to have it. Does the car need to be on jacks or anything? Also let me know where you're coming from and I'll PM you the easiest directions. THANKS again!

It's quickest to have the car on stands with all the wheels off. I'm coming down from Austin Bluffs and Woodmen, so probably down Powers or the I, whichever you think is fastest. Looking forward to it,
Will

Cool... I'll PM you directions from I-25 than. That will be the quickest. I'll also make sure to have the car on jacks and the wheels off. I bought the biggest bottle of Val Syntech Advance Auto had, not the gallon though. LOL Thanks again!!!

Yeah, that's the stuff that I use. Not that I'm some big-time endorser or anything, but the Valvoline will be a big improvement over stock, and it will be one less thing to have to worry about at the track. The Valvoline doesn't quite have the same impressive wet boiling point numbers that the pricier stuff like Motul has, but it's way cheaper, and it doesn't absorb moisture nearly as quickly, so it doesn't have to be replaced as often. Good stuff, and a good regular maintenance item to know how to do for any track junkie (as you well know, Will).

Default Saturday 2/25/06

I'd like to get a head count of WHO will be showing up at 1 PM this Saturday at the rest stop just south of Larkspur (see post #60, pg. 3). These are only Z drivers confirmed to be going to LaJunta: GaryM05 (driving solo on Sat. night), Resolute, Robert K and Mattspeir (former Z driver in a SRT Neon) driving down on Sunday AM.

Many have expressed interest in going to LaJunta since I first posted this track day back in December. Some even indicated this weekend was far better for their schedules! Among those hangin' on the fence are: Fizz2, Colorado S14, Funkymonkey1111, ZZ-notop, Kohlersc, Zmegoby, Jgrey and Peterputter. What's up guys?

And who else is up for that relaxing drive down Saturday?

1. Dkmura

David, I won't be there unfortunately. Already had plans to be at an NHRA race in Phoenix this weekend. I hope you guys have a good time, and be safe.

Can't wait to hear how everyone's time was.

Just a suggestion but maybe meet up at Mac for the Dyno Day before heading down.
