Denver Grand Prix '06 meet?

A few years ago, a group of Colorado Z's met and went to a Friday session of the Denver GP. As I recall, we found a parking lot west of the Platte River that we could use for the afternoon and walked across to the Pepsi Center. We got to see several different race classes at speed. We also walked around to check the numerous car exhibits and open pit areas on a more relaxed day at the races.
This year's race is August 11-13th. One possible bonus to going on Friday is that Bridgestone has offered a promo for the race in past years featuring a FREE ticket for that day only. No assurances this will be offered in '06, but we could try. What do you all think? We could talk Zs for awhile and then head over to see some serious $$ being spent on the racetrack! I'd be happy to act as your race tour guide and answer motorsports questions along the way.

I'm in. I was already planning on going for all 3 days this year, including taking the Friday off from work and spending it at the racetrack. Depending on what time the Z group meets, it might be easier for me to just meet the group inside somewhere.
Should be a good time this year. Here's the schedule for Friday:
8:00 AM - 8:55 AM BMW Practice
9:15 AM - 9:55 AM Atlantic Practice
10:15 AM - 11:30 AM CHAMP CAR Practice
11:45 AM - 12:15 PM BMW Qualifying #1
12:30 PM - 5:00 PM CHAMP CAR Technical Inspection
12:30 PM - 1:00 PM SWC Touring Practice
1:15 PM - 1:45 PM Atlantic Qualifying
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM CHAMP CAR Qualifying
3:15 PM - 4:15 PM “Back Seat Driver”/Pace Car On-Track Activities
3:20 PM - 4:10 PM Pit Walk Activities
4:30 PM - 5:00 PM SWC Touring Practice
5:10 PM - 5:30 PM Drifting Shootout
5:45 PM - 6:15 PM Vintage

Dave: Thanks for posting.

Well I think that it sounds like a great idea. I might as well get started on trying to get that Friday off.
Dave: A little off topic, but I am still working on getting that COSMOS Finite Element Analysis program. Because of budget stuff it had to be pushed to this month (hopefully). It's still in the plan, but taking longer that I thought it would. If anyone's interesting, I was talking to Dave about using this program to do a quick analysis on the forces and stresses on his tube frame race car.

Good idea David!
I'll be working at the Denver Grand Prix all 3 days. I haven't gotten my assignment yet, but I do know that I'll be working the Touring Car group - tire marking, tech inspections and miscellaneous stuff. I might be able to meet up with the group if there's a break in the action (I could call someone’s cell to locate you). I can't make any guarantees, but workers are usually given a few passes for friends and family. I'll inquire about that if anyone is interested. As I said, no guarantee, so if you're adamant about seeing the races you should go ahead and get your tickets.
Just an FYI. If you are even slightly interested in racing, you should try working a few events. I had a blast at the F1 USGP, and you just can't buy tickets to see the race the way I did. The only difficult part about working a race is the heat, but you soon forget about that once the lights go out. It's also helpful if you are a USAC or SCCA member.

David,
I will let you know about going on Friday. I will be there for sure on Sunday, but will see what I can do about Friday with me skipping out of work.
Sarah, my wife has a friend coming in from the Carolinas she used to work with. I guess her boyfriend is some car owner in the BMW series cars and he is supposed to get us a weekend pass. Me getting that will be a big determining factor on if I go on Friday. I will keep you posted.

Guys, I'm currently checking with the Bridgestone District sales office on any promos they might have for next Friday. As soon as I have some definitive answers, I'll post it along with some directions to a meeting place and a time. Figure mid-morning next Friday, the 11th.
