Default 2006 The (Colorado) Run Tech Day- 11/11/06

This is an associated thread to the 2006 PMI HPDE/track day on 11/25/06. I'll open up my garage next Saturday for a tech day to check over the cars that may need minor work to make sure they are track (and really, street) worthy. This would include tasks like changing brake pads and upgrading to DOT 4 fluid, checking lubricant levels, tire pressures, torque values and tire condition. My home is located near auto parts, tire and machine shops, so if we need to run parts out (or replace them) we can get to them quickly.

So please don't ask to change plenums, install coilovers, etc. as that will be beyond the scope of what we're trying to accomplish that day. However, if there's any interest, I'll give a demonstration of how to perform a simple heel-toe downshift and provide some exercises so you can practice on the street (much easier to learn at 15 MPH than at 115) and before the day at PMI.

I'll have my tools and equipment ready, but will ask that if we have to use any consumables (Valvoline Syntech DOT 4, Redline lubricants, etc.) that the recipient either replace or pay for them. Of course, things like brake pads or tires should be purchased in advance and I'll be happy to help consult with anyone who needs help with selecting parts. I also have some used 225-45-18 040s that are feathered (but usable) that I'll donate to anyone who needs them to make the track day.

The specifics:

Saturday, November 11th; 9:30 am to ??
2060 S. Jamaica Ct.
Aurora, CO 80014
(4 blocks EAST of S. Havana St. and 2 blocks north of E. Illiff Ave)
(303) 752-9777

Post here if you are planning on attending!

Dave,

I'll plan on coming given the constraints we discussed earlier. I'd like to check out the trans and rear diff levels if possible.

Up to you- the Kumhos will offer better traction, but will get feathered by a day at the track. The 040s will roar on the highway, but you won't need to worry about permanently tearing them up at the track.

There's a Big O tire store a few blocks away if you want to get the tires remounted. I'll donate 'em for free, but obviously can't guarantee them (unless you want a guarantee that they're feathered and will roar- in which case I say they are and they will).

This weekend a cold front is forecast to be coming through Denver. But I don't think the weather is going to be that big a factor. YoungZ33 can't make "The Run" b/c of work and I'm not sure of his continued interest otherwise. The only other person who expressed an interest in coming over Saturday is Funkymonkey1111. Are there any other Colorado 350Z/G35/whatever members interested in coming over for the tech day on Saturday? If not, it may be a short day!

If I can get away from the girl friend and baby I'd love to come. I dont own a G or Z but I am a mechanic at infiniti of denver. I can probably get the owner of a coupe I've been building to come to. Crap just re read the date. I'll be working on and having the coupe tuned that day

I'm still up for the tech day, but if you want to cancel for lack of interest, that's fine, dave

Will you be working on the G35C at work? If so, I'm just down the street and might come down after the tech day to see how it's coming along. Also, did you see the copy of Nissan Sport Magazine that I dropped off at the dealership a few weeks ago?

I'm not getting much attention for the Springs tech/BBQ day also. So far Just Will and my Dave (JWT TT G35) but no tech.

Semi-related thread jack. I had a subscription to Sport Z,and then I resubscribed to Nissan Sport about 4 weeks ago, and I still haven't seen a copy of the first issue of Nissan Sport. Have they been sent out yet?

Hopefully you'll get your "issues" worked out and make the PMI date! I'd prefer NOT to cancel if we can build some interest. Also, as far as checking your tranny and diff fluids, have you had them changed before? How many miles on your Z?

35,200 miles. the fluids haven't been changed before. i was going to go with the 50-50 blend of the MTL and MT-90 and either the redline or royal purple gear oil.

If you still had issues coming of the old Sport Z, Nissan Sport Magazine has been honoring them. If you took out a new subscription to Nissan Sport about four weeks ago, you just missed the Fall issue. We're preparing the Winter issue currently. Why don't you stop by on Saturday and I'll hand you a copy of the Fall '06 issue personally?

Sounds good. Bring along three quarts of each Redline product (you'll have some leftover) and we'll get them in. For the diff you need about a quart and a half and I'd suggest Valvoline Synthetic 80/90W gear oil (cheap and readily available).

I thought it was supposed to be 75W90 oil? (That's what Redline suggested).

Factory specs call for GL5 rated, 80/90W oil. But in our climate, 75/90W will work just fine.

I appreciate it, but I am down in the Springs area. I'll be up at MAC Autosports on this Friday, if you're in the area, and want to take a look at a JWT TT G35.
