Can't wait!

As for the price, I may have been thinking about SCR's price of $65 and gotten it confused with the fee for PMI when I posted that...not that $5 makes that much difference.

Thanks for setting this up, David!

David,
I'm down for the 8th not the 13th. Just want to be sure you get the right count.

Default Happy Birthday to "Z"!

The 8th is my z's b-day, (and mine as well), so I will be a PMI. I am gonna set up some new pads and some fluid, so maybe I'll get some time in.

This will be "our" virgin run, so I will be gentle, but SCR looked like so much fun.

Can anyone, (this is kinda a dumb question), give me some advice on what I need to do, bring, ect. I know about the helmet and long sleeves, the long pants and some decent shoes, but any other suggestions, and don't say a full tank of gas....

Thanx for any input,
beeman

Our rules are not quite as strict (maybe they should be) as some of the other formal track days. But, I'd suggest you look for a SA-rated helmet (vs. a M-rated helmet designed for motorcycles) and flat soled shoes (no need for those airbag Nikes on the tootsies at the track). Be SURE to have your car prepped and ready the night before, including torquing all the wheels to 85 ft/lbs. Bring that torque wrench, air pressure gauge and a few spares to ensure that you'll never use them. Bring a light jacket, hat, sunglasses, snacks and plenty of water. Most importantly, bring an open mind, as we'll have some tips to help improve your driving!

I was planning on heading to PMI this Sat. with Gary from the BMW CCA's driving school. I figured more school time and would have a "heads up" on the track, but now my transmission is out. I have it at the dealer for a loud rattle sound that occurs when the clutch is let out, or when engaging. I figured the throw-out bearing was going, but at only 9000 miles? Well, there is some discussion going on and it might need a tranny replacement. Apparently, they are not so convinced it is the throw-out bearing on the clutch, but a shot bearing on the input shaft. Anyone here have something similiar go on? In any case, I should have this taken care of, with new brake pads, by the 8th, and is it acceptable or not to bring friends this time?

I just got the Z back with a new top and a new tranny compliments of Nissan. I heading for Milwaukee on Sat but will be back in time for PMI. Is it okay if my son joins us. He drives a Mitsubishi? I haven't mentioned it to him yet. I was waiting to see what the attendance looked like. If you want to keep it all Z's that okay with me.
I checked my brakes the other day and the wear is minimal but they sure do sqeal. I thought the Hawks were supposed to be quiet. Any comments???

Will and Craig- Let's keep it all Nissans for one more time. I'm concerned about opening it up too much for now. Let's discuss this subject and if we have enough support, maybe we can do something different for November.

Craig- In my experience, Hawks (particularly the HP+) squeal quite a bit with light pedal pressure. Make sure the "anti-vibration" shims are well-greased with high temp grease on the backside of each pad is all I can suggest...

Your right, the squealing is under light pressure so maybe the grease will help. Can you tell me where to get the stuff? I'll get some put in before the track day.
All Nissan is okay with me. My son can take the disappointment.
I'll bring the stuff you suggested and look forward to the fun.

It sounds like it will turn out to be a great track day. Looking forward to it.

I have no idea why I have a three post. I just got back from a very long travel and saw that, sorry.

Dave: I will take your advise and get a new set of pads tomorrow. Thanks.

Do we have plans for the Denver people to meet up? Larkspur reststop maybe? And meet the Colorado Springs people (Will) at the track?

IMHO this type of track day is the best. I really enjoyed the La Junta track day because of the five cars on the track and the personal instruction from everyone.

Telling my buddy in the WRX to go find his own track hooligans is ok by me. I'll do like La Junta and just catch everyone going down the I. I agree David, this is the best time- smaller numbers and an open track provides great instruction and seat time. As everyone goes past Briargate Pkwy or Academy Blvd I'll just slip in behind and follow the train. My rear pads are pretty much gone. he front pads are looking really good, but the rears are shot and down on the wear indicator. So, new pads for me, but the misses is suggesting a BBK would be better Of course I told her that a BBK would require new wheels and tires, which are down to one track event at most, and she agreed. Who am I to argue with that kind of advice?? I'll see everyone the 8th I guess.

Default I'll follow too...

Resolute,

I'll hang out with you and wait for the group to pass by on I-25. Maybe if we get someone to call ahead to my cell-phone, we would have a better chance of catching them on the way down. I live in the Briargate area, so staking out on the north end would be easiest, but I'm flexible otherwise... Just a thought.

Joel-
glad you are coming! I live in Briargate, in the Fairfax area off Research. Last time I just parked off to the side on the Briargate Pkwy on-ramp going southbound. There is plenty of room and since I-25 turns to the right, it gives a good view of all the traffic, and a line of 350Z's is hard to miss. If this sounds good to you, let me know.

Will and Joel: We can also exchange cell phone numbers. Last time I went to a track day down south the Denver 350z caravan missed the Colorado Springs caravan (Will). We met up at the track, but I think that we need better real time communication. Let me know and I can PM you my #.

Default Contact info...

David,

I've already sent my cell number to Will and I will PM you with that info as well. I'm also game for buying a 2-way (motorola?) to keep in touch as an alternative. I seem to recall that some of you guys use them on your mountain rides. If this is the case, let me know what would be a good model to purchase and what channel to scan.

David,

Right now it's an 80% chance I will be there for the 8th.

I am interested in joining the Z crowd for the November 13th track day (if it is not already filled up).

I am still stock and should probably at least replace my brake pads before the event (any suggestions on what to get?).

This will be friendly for a "track newbie" won't it? I would hate to hold anyone up as I practice basic track skills.

Thanks,

Chris

I'm in for Oct 8, and possibly Nov 13.

I'm going to run on my Hawk HPS pads and stainless steel lines. I'll run a few laps hard, and then a cooldown lap to make sure I don't overheat the wimpy stock brakes. PMI is definitely rough on brakes.

The GF says she might assist me in purchasing the 13" StopTech front kit before next summer.

What time should we meet at the Larkspur exit? 8am? 9am?

Should be fun.

So far, I haven't got the "official" go-ahead from the boss to get the day off, but I do have a back up. If there is a time set for the meet at the Larkspur exit, I try to be there.

Craig- Try 'Moly Lube' or 'Sylglyde', (or however you spell that). You can get either of these at Napa or AutoZone. Just apply a light coating to the back of the pad. Also, try beveling the edges of the pad, at the top and bottom, about 45 degrees, (I know it hurts to grind up that expensive of a pad, but it works), and then using 'BG Stop Squeal', (also at Napa, but a little pricey), on the material side of the pad. I have been doing this for 13 years, and it works!

Bottom- Yes, I am the VS v3 kit and the Vis CF hood, like stated in the other post. Hopefully I can get a decent brake set up so I can run with you guys this time.

Hope to see ya guys soon,
beeman

I have exchanged Cell Phone numbers with Jgray. He is in Colorado Springs. I think that I can give him and the Colorado Springs group a call when we are getting close to give them an advance warning. I can also call them if we have a problem leaving Denver.

I will also bring my walkie talkies. Not because they’re fun to play with, but hopefully it will help with the drive out there. They have a pretty good transmission distance and it is good quick communication. I figure the leader and the caboose can use them.
