Default Out of state speeding ticket question

So I need some advice on how to handle ticket. I was at the DC area this past weekend and I got a speeding ticket in Virginia. The ticket was pretty ridiculous since the cop gave me 56 in a 40 when I was ahead of the pack and the road was 3 lanes wide (3 lanes in Cali = 50+mph). So anyways, it's worthless to fly back and fight the ticket.

My question is, can I pay the ticket and go to traffic school in Cali so I can avoid the points? I have had a perfect record for 8 yrs w/o tickets or accidents. If people had been in this situation before and got out without getting point, please advise.

no you can't. The ticket will not surface to your insurance for another 2 years then you ins premium will go up. I had a ticket in GA back in 2000 and it not show up in the system until 2002.

I'm not sure if it will be reported to the California DMV.

While living in Colorado, I had received 5 speeding tickets (3 police stops & 2 photo radar tickets). All for ~12 mph over. I paid each ticket and never received any problems with the CA DMV nor my insurance rates (which are typically updated through the driving records kept on file by the DMV <for your state>).

BUT, I got two tickets (1 year apart) driving through Utah and both showed up on my California DMV driving record (2 points).

I recommend calling the DC police/courts (see back of ticket usually) and asking if they share information with other states regarding minor traffic infractions.

Crap dude sorry, Fairfax County is awful. How's your driving record? I can give you the number for my lawyer and you wouldn't even have to be in court.

Sorry I couldn't get to you over the weekend, I was in Va Beach, NC, and Blacksburg.

EnthuZiastDrive, not a problem, I wasnt even thinking about the dvd until you mentioned it. My record has been clean for 8yrs. The only ticket(s) I got were 2 months after I got my license and I got speeding/reckless but after that it has been spotless.

Good guess on Fairfax County. I got caught at Old Dominion Dr @ Rt. 123 in McLean, where each lane is like 15ft wide. Def. PM the lawyer info because there might be a chance I might use him and thanks. The route I might take is to call up CA DMV and see if they have something worked out with VA with points then I will call VA DMV to see if and how many points will be assessed. I'll see if I can work something out. Definitely left a sour note on the trip because it was awesome while I was there. Adams Morgan rocks these days, it was crazy town and I got crazy wasted.

Virginia Speeding Ticket - Out of State License
Virginia will report your speeding ticket back to your home state and it will be posted to your driving record and treated just as if the ticket was issued in your home state. Some states do not enter minor out of state speeding tickets so check with your DMV to be certain what effect the Virginia ticket will have on your license before you just send in your money.

For example a 15mph+ ticket in Virginia will earn a North Carolina driver a 30 day suspension of their drivers license.

Never believe an officer who indicates that there will be no points on your license if you just pay the ticket. Always check with the DMV.

If you are under 20 and receive a Virginia speeding ticket you will receive a notification that you must physically attend an 8 hour Virginia Driver Improvement class. This is for Virginia drivers only. Simply fax them an enlarged copy of your license and ask them to waive the driving school. Include your Virginia customer number and the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles fax number is 804-367-6211.

**I guess I will call DMV in Cali and see if they will allow me to go to traffic school instead of assessing points**

good luck with it. 3 years ago, they won't let me do it and my insurance punish me for 5 years for this stupid ticket.

I believe you have to call up the county where you got the ticket and ask them if its ok for you to take an online traffic school. Tell them which online traffic school you will use; see if they'll approve it.

I got a speeding ticket in the Florida keyes, and did an online traffic school approved by that county in Florida. I'm from S. Cal.
