Yeah I'm on here even when i'm busy! I'll be on the phone with a client while reading.

I actually goofed and instructed a local IT guy at a customer's shop once to look in their server room for a nismo router (instead of cisco)!

Here's how I check the site:

1. Control Panel > Check my PMs, respond

2. I run a search on my username to find all the threads I recently posted in, to check for replies

3. Do a 'Find new posts' from the main forum menu

4. Check the regional forums

5. Repeat every hour, see a doctor if symptoms exceed 2 days or high fever persists.

LOL.

i can only talk on the phone w/MKZ about sex for so long.
that's true... it's all I can do to NOT rip my fingernails out one by one when all I hear is, "you know Mike does this thing that I rreeeallllyy love!!!" or "you know Mike could probably teach you a thing or two..." or "one time at band camp with Mike..." (just kidding iris)

Seriously, I tell myself each morning during my drive into work that I'm not going to go onto this site until I finish X-amount of work... it's all a lie... I lie to myself to help me believe that I don't need my350z.com to get through the day, but I do... addiction is such an ugly thing... but then there's my car and my car is beautiful.

I, too, am a my350z addict. I thought that once I got the car I would stop checking this forum so often. Alas, that would not be the case. I'm here every other hour or so just lurking. Allow me to take this to another level:

After a while you can make some observations about the way people interact and the flux the forum undergoes.

I approximate that every 1.5 - 2 hours there are about 100 threads that are new or have new posts. Overnight, about 250.

You also start to get a sense of people's personalities (aggressive, passive, etc.). You can also spot trends, where if one guy shows off his new rims, you'll suddenly see a spurt of tire offset threads. Topic trends like Sex and Politics are big in the OT section. You can also spot group behavior like how the TransAM/LS owners tend to gang up on a thread and enjoy laying it on uninformed people in the Racing section. Just some interesting tidbits while I was "high" on my350z.

Anybody else have an interesting stat/observation?

I experienced that myself today. I post a honest experience with a highway run and while a good number of the guys came in with good info, a few of those low self-esteem guys got their pda-stylus d|cks in a knot over it calling BS on me along with comments like "he was probably driving, while you were racing" after when i clearly explained how the OTHER guy wanted to race me and I even waited for him to takeoff first. I'm beginning to believe high amts of displacement affects basic reading skills.

Seems all some of them do is do searches on this board to see if anyone (god forbid) talks about their specific car model -- then quickly posts a reply trying every offensive method to defend their 'all-powerful' vehicle that no one has the right to post a kill or defeat about.

I'd like to see some keywords related to domestic models be removed from the search engine so they're forced to read through some actual posts rather than doing the nasty 'search and flame'. What do you think, moderators?

Man... my cube neighbor does that with his g/f on the phone just to annoy me.

Then I go kung-fu on him and lay into him about his white ancestors making us Chinese build the railroads.

He shuts up.

Then we go back to work.

Yay!

I'd like to know your sense of the personalities. j/k, don't want to call u out like that. but this is my first real time on a web forum and it's amazing how people will articulate things in detail so that you feel like you know them better than you do people you talk to (like these buttholes i work with). i'm NOT talking about sex. but i guess when you actually give people time and space to talk, they show their true colors so much more quickly, in good and bad ways.

iris, I don't actually have any specific members in mind. It is just an observation about behavior in general. I'll just spout some categories I made up:

Passive-Ethusiast folks (like me) tend to lurk more. We really like our cars and like to watch from the wayside. Reading the daily posts is like watching a soap opera sometimes. Those folks tend to reserve any comments until they have something relevant to say. With these folks, it is hard to tell how they are in real life (they don't post enough to know).

Moderate-Community. I think of these people as Moderator quality people. They are in it for the comradarie and friendly atmosphere. They usually have something to say in every thread. I think of these people as usually very level headed. Sometimes, I sense some folks probably enjoy the feeling of being a respectable force in the forum where in real life, perhaps less respect is given (just speculating).

Aggressive-Enthusiast. Die-hard, brand loyalists (z or any other model). I get the sense these are stubborn people in real life. Some feel they must defend their own vehicles as if it were their personal reputation at stake. A few resort to personal and unnecessary comments. A little bit insecure, some esteem issues perhaps, dunno... I don't mean to say this is true of everyone, just a collection of impressions I get. (Please don't flame me )

That's just an example. I'm sure you guys have all kinds of categories. How about someone give a personality profile of a Troll?

I check this site probably 10 or more times a day to see what is new. I read most of the posts but, alot of them I simply ignore simply because I am not interested in the topic. I love this site but, I see alot more responses to posts that I have to say to myself "Would that person be as rude and arrogant as they are if this coversation was happening face to face?". These are the types of posts that drive people away, especially when the post starts out with a simple question about something like brakes and turns into pissing contest about stopping distance figures. Oh, well, I still like the site because the majority of the posts are worthy ...
