Default July 27 Buttonwillow Performance Driving Clinic

So who all has decided to give the Buttonwillow Performance Driving Clinic a try this Sunday? I'm going to see if I can stay over Saturday night to help out in the morning, but I can't stay the whole day.

For those that are attending, who's going to come up Saturday night to watch the 6-Hour Night Enduro at Buttonwillow? Last year's race went right down to the last few laps. If you do come to the race, please stop by the pits and say hello. I'll be driving the San Dimas Auto Racing/Sylvania/Star Shield Armor Miata. I'm not sure what number or color we'll be racing yet, but just look for the giant yellow San Dimas Auto Racing truck!

BTW, if you're looking for an off-the-beaten-path fun way to drive to the track, let me know.

I'll be getting up there Saturday at some point. What's traffic like getting through LA? I was planning on leaving San Diego around noon. Should I leave a little earlier?

I was thinking of checking out the enduro, so I'll try to get down to the pits and say hi.

Dave - Traffic though LA on the 405 & 5 can be a pain in the butt on Saturday afternoons. Depending upon where you are in San Diego, you might consider taking the 15 to the 210 to the 5 now that the 210 goes all the way through. It's probably a bit longer distance-wise, but if traffic is okay, it should take you around 3.5-4 hours.

Thanks guys. I'm pretty close to the 15, so I think that's what all take.

See you there!

ok, the driving clinic was awesome. i am HOOKED now!!! i'm definitely planning on returning for the speedventures event at the end of august ....and by then i would have gotten my nismo cams and i/h/e installed

just wish i could get my suspension upgraded to s-tunes by then, but i dont know... this car definitely bounces and rolls a little too much for me on stock suspension

i have new toyo proxes t1s and these wheels performed amazingly with my hawk hps

i did go off track a couple times either pushing the car too much and/or taking too early of an apex ....oh well, live and learn, and one time 'cause i was trying to practice some heel/toe

it was nice to meet up with gibbsy there, only two 350z's.....a lot of subarus tho. he has the borla true dual and it does sound nice

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I wish I could have been there on Sunday, but I was worn out from racing the night before and just went home - and I had that pesky wedding thing Sunday evening.

The Subaru crowd has really embraced the whole track thing pretty well. I'm sure we'll see more Z's as more people get them. Hopefully I'll have mine by the next event, too.

I agree totally with b18bvudoo, that was awesome!! I think I might be hooked now too. The rest of my summer weekends are booked though, so I'll have to wait until the fall.

Scott, I was there Saturday night for the race. I walked around the pit areas, but I forgot to note what car you were driving, so wasn't sure where you were. Now, I see that you're San Dimas, and I remember seeing the big yellow truck. How about that downpour? I stood out in it for a little bit, but it started getting way too heavy. Finally had to retreat to my car.

Like b18bvudoo said, there were a lot of Subarus, even a couple new Sti's. Those things are pretty damn fast! I think I only saw one S2K though. There were some Vettes, an NSX, a 911 of some sort, an Evo, some Mustands and Cobras, a Jetta, and others I can't remember. There was even a PT Cruiser (I think it was a teenage girl getting some driving lessons). All in all, a fantastic time. The instructors are great and really enjoy helping you out. It was nice to have one sitting shotgun, giving me pointers on when to make the turn, how to use the entire track, etc.

Dave - I'm glad you made it up Saturday evening. My original ride was the yellow #2 Miata you probably saw parked next to the San Dimas rig. It overheated and came to a screeching halt in about a half hour.

However, another team asked me to drive their really quick Toyota Sports Racer (the black & red #18) for the start and finish of the 6-hour race. They qualified the car 8th, and I had us up to 3rd before our first pit stop. I had a fun little battle with a 911 Cup car for a few laps. The sports racer was a blast to drive, especially late at night. I felt like I was at Le Mans with the open cockpit, big wing, slicks, etc. We actually parked the car for much of the rain since we only had slick tires.

The San Dimas team is off to Road America this weekend. We get to support another CART race, which is always a lot of fun.

Yes I made the camera mount. It's awesome if I do say so myself.
It can hold any camera that has a standard tri-pod connection hole. I use either my Canon Elura camcorder, or my Sony digital camera.
Here's the thread about it:
