Anyone in or around UCLA?
Hi guys. I'm currently starting a new car club in UCLA just to gather all the car enthusiasts in my school (or around it) and have some fun car related events such as dyno day, tech day, track day, car meets, etc. I know there are some of you out there! The only requirement is that NO RICE and of course, you'll have to be a student there.
Please bring a working knowledge of whatever you can contribute to us. All makes and models welcome, so long as your
knowledge goes beyond what exhaust is the loudest.
If you're interested please shoot me an email at liudailo@yahoo.com with your name, car, and (if you have it) AIM/
AOL screen name like so:
James Liu
1997 Toyota Supra Turbo
White
6spd
AIM: LiuDAiLO
Please spare me the mods for now.. I will be asking for them later when you joined. Thanks!
PS: Even if you're not a student anyways and would still like to hop on our mailing list, feel free to do so. Just mention it in the email.

.. a good student organization to talk to is UCLA's Society of Automotive Engineers.
President this year is Steven Lin. look him up on the directory or PM me for his email-
They build race cars annual to compete in the Mini Baja competition. I was on the team when i was at UCLA-
Have fun with your car meets.. watch out for UCPD..

Thanks Chebosto. I was actually thinking of just joining UCLA's SAE but then I realized that they're a totally different group. His email would be great and don't worry, our car meets won't be around UCLA most likely

SAE does two projects a year (typically) Mini Baja. and Aero West.
Mini Baja is awesome. i've tried to convince the team to do Formula 1 but UCLA wont take the risk. since the initial investment is over $25k and then theirs the safety risks.
we built the Mini Baja racer (single seat off road do kart) for about $16k the year i was there and we did fairly well. this year's car is freakin awesome...
you dont have to be a Mechanical Engineer to join. they will accept anyone enrolled at UCLA that wants to help out.. not sure if you saw Eweek in the quad last week. but they had race cars from Nismo and honda come out and speak-.. i was supposed to show my Z, but i was in norcal... those guys are awesome to talk to. and you can learn A TON about transmissions and suspension.. they have all the software needed for simulation and they make their own trannies in the metal shop-.. makes for good understanding of our street cars.
check out the website.. i think Steve Lin's email is there..

Yah I went to their E-week. They showed some M3s there. I still don't think they're in the same mindset as the average car enthusiasts though. Unless they'd be willing to do some dyno runs, auto-x-ing, stuff like that.
But regardless, I'm pretty interested in it. So I'd be able to participate in SAE even as a chem major?

it doesnt matter what major you are. they are always looking for those interested.
as for as auto-x and dyno runs. they love that stuff. average car enthusiast would probably be an understatement for them.
there's a guy there named Kip. he's really into auto-X and open course racing. he's got an m3. he might be able to help organize school wide things...

Hi guys,
We will be having our first event and it'll be road course in Streets of Willow. The infos:
Where: Streets of Willow in Rosamond, CA.
When: June 18th @ 8AM.
How much: $100 but I've worked something out with the organizer of this event and talked the price down abit. Contact me for more info.
http://www.redlinetrackevents.com
Please note that the UCLA students have dibs on the first 10 spots and I think the organizer that I've talked to capped the group discount at 20 people, so, please understand that not everyone will be able to be accomodated with this deal.
Thanks guys, hope to see you all there!
