Default dealer transmission replacement question... need help asap.

So i took my car into the dealer. I have an 03 with 58k miles.. its been grinding in 3rd and 5th randomly and mainly when cold.

The dealer has acknowleged that my 3rd and 5th gear syncros are ruined. They are telling me the cost of parts and labor alltogether would be $5k+. They want to charge me $1200 cash as a "hook up" deal to pay their guys to fix it (new tranny, clutch and flywheel) because my clutch is "burned" out and warranty wont cover it because of that. Before taking it in, my clutch felt fine, never slipped on me once that i can remember, but im pretty sure its never been replaced on the car, ever.

This feels like they are trying to rip me a new one. Shouldnt nissan powertrain warranty cover this under their 6yr/60k mile warranty??? I need to know asap so i know what to do, pick up my car and take it elsewhere or have them fix it and pay the $1200. They supposedly say its a one day job, and this sounds fishy to me cause i wouldnt imagine that they would have a Z transmission in stock on hand since its a smaller dealer.

Id say take it else where and see what they say. Something just seems to weird about the whole thing. Oh and plus..why would you need a new Flywheel?

Definitely trying to scam you, don't ever go back to that place. Try taking it to another dealer, do some research on some of the forums about who has had good experiance at other dealers and the name of the person they worked with. If you were up here we have a couple dealerships that don't even want to drive the car when you say you have a trans problem, they just hear you have problem and they schedule the swap.

hey bro come on down to the south west side and take it to mossy nissan. They are really honest people and always treat me with great respect, you can even ask for the advisor I use his name is Bill.

IT IS A SCAM. I have had two transmissions replaced already totally under warranty, I even had new Flywheel clutch installed for free. (labor that is)

btw most other companies do not cover the clutch assembly or just for a limited time

mitsubishi has zero coverage. dodge is 12k miles (perhaps on just some of their vehicles).

however it looks like nissan covers it so i would definately take it elsewhere.

i hear good thing things about courtesy nissan in richardson

i believe they are def. trying to get me. i told the guy i cant come up with $1200 bucks... so he asks me what i CAN come up with... i say maybe $500 and he comes back at me with $700.

They say my clutch is fried... my clutch has never once slipped on me, and has ALWAYS had a great grab. I know the symptoms of a fried clutch and my car doesnt have them. I just hope that when i pickup my car, it isnt worse off then when i dropped it off.

Im almost willing to drive my car up there just to get it fixed. Think they would work on a car from houston? I wonder how long it would take.

i went ahead and picked up my car... sure enough it grinds worse than before I took it to another, larger more professional dealer. The first thing they did was have a tech go on a test drive with me i showed him what it was doing, and they are are supposed to take care of it. Hopefully they fix it without giving me the run around.

Wish my luck! lol

ps. i will disclose which dealer it was that tried to screw me after this is all over

Alright, make sure everyone avoids David McDavid nissan in south houston. They are the ones that tried to rip me off for the transmission on my car.

I took my car to Sterling McCall Nissan in stafford, where they treated me with EXCELLENT customer service from the moment i pulled up. They took my car in, even though they were over booked with cars to service. I got a call 3 days later, letting me know my car was ready to pickup with...

a NEW transmission
a NEW clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing
a NEW flywheel

they never asked me to pay anything, and just did the work, no questions asked.

I highly recommend anyone in the houston area to make sure and take your cars to Sterling McCall and AVOID David McDavid Nissan at all costs.
