Now that we have a lot of fresh faces (along with some old ones), I was wondering if there was any interest at all in a drag race day. I know most of the older members never made it out there, save for a couple and even they only went every once in a while.
I've heard a few members mention that they want to try out this drag race thing, but I'm just trying to gauge the general interest level.
Of course, it won't be anything official nor will I even try to rent out the track like the Mid-A guys, but it might be fun to cruise down there together, race, then cruise back home.
What are your thoughts? I'd say it'll have to be sometime toward the end of the year, when the weather's much cooler.

I have yet to beat my previous time of 13.7.
I even live like 15 minutes from HRP and I rarely go. The last time I went was back during Christmas break. I am recently getting the urge to go again though, so I am down for some drag racing. I have two weeks of summer classes left and then I have a wonderful one week of vacation before Fall semester begins at UH.
Count me in if someone wants to set something up at HRP.

Sorry, this was oriented more for DFW folks.
I wish I could go to HRP though. I heard that track is fastest in TX with better track prep, good climate, low elevation, etc. That's where I'd go to beat my PB.
13.7 isn't that great (no offense). What was your trap? Have you tried posting your timeslip asking for help in the drag forum? Most people will just spit out what they read, but pay attention to veteran racers. They will actually provide real knowledge. The others will just spit out crap they don't really know anything about. You can definitely get low 13s if you tried with practice.

HRP offers good conditions.
Of course I have room for improvement. But if you look at my crappy 60' time, you'll notice that my quarter mile time isn't that bad. If I could have gotten a better 60', I would have been much higher on that list. But we all know that comes after much seat time.

If you were a bit closer and we happened to go to the same track, I'd offer to meet up with you to give you some tips. I'm no pro, but I definitely have more experience than many of the TX members do. Keep at it. You'll get it. Nobody was there to guide me but I think I did pretty well in a short amount of time. Drag racing isn't too hard.
I'd be up for this...my knowledge of drag racing is limited to absolutely zero. I'd probably end up embarrassing myself, but I think it'd be great to learn from a great drag racer(3.5.0.)

I'm far from being a "great drag racer." More like "lucky at the drag strip." I actually suck (especially now that I haven't been to the strip in a long time), but I do have one or two awesome times that conceal my inconsistencies.
I'd love to see fellow Z owners try their skills at the drag strip. It'll definitely be fun. Grudge matches, anyone?

I'll be up for it as well. But are you willing to go to Ennis only? They seem to only open on weekdays from what you said. I'm never available during the weekdays, but weekends I'm free all weekend.

I don't see other 1/4 mile drag strips around, so yes - Ennis, although far as hell from where I am, is the only place I visit. Plus, they like me there.
Damn, I was checking the schedule to give you an answer and apparently, there's only 3 test and tune days left this year (Aug 1st, 8th, 15th).
I'm a noob. I'm pretty sure 15th is the only day I can make it, but I think that's too short notice for most.
I guess we'll have to just keep talking about it until the next season starts back up in Feb '09. I feel retarded.. This is what happens when you don't go to the track for so long.

They aren't open that much? What about going to somewhere like kennedale or 1/8 tracks, they seem to be open a lot and on weekends too. Unless you really just don't like the 1/8 tracks.
I have always wanted to do this just to see what kinda time I would post. Like many others on here I have...... None, Zip, Ziltch, Nada, Zero about dragracing. I know that your launch is very important and can be practiced. I will need to confer with Chris or anyone else to see what little tweeks can be done to you car to help with times. Besides buying a set of Drag radials....I'm too cheap.
This sounds fun & I've always wanted to go, but didn't want to be the only Newb out there, so maybe if we get a bunch of first-timers then it would be very fun.
I will say I'm in for now.

quakerroatmeal, I like finishing off the job.
I don't like to go halfway then quit. I don't like to be blueballed.
Travis, like I said, I'm probably good to go on the 15th (pending work), but it's too short notice for most. You know how TX people are with events. They don't want any long distances, nothing that costs money, and plenty of time for them to back out.
I don't recommend you get on the drag radials if it's your first time out there. It's important to learn the concept first before making the jump to sticker tires.

At any rate, I'm most likely going to go on the 15th (if I don't work), since it's the last one before my gf comes back and school starts back up.
