Travis that can be welded. Run it by Lewisville Muffler and they can do it for 10 or 20 bucks. Maybe not even.

Had an HKS on an old car, back when HKS was more than just 3/4 made of reworked APC parts it seems, anyway it fell apart at the seam and they took care of it without much issue.

 

i will run by there after work today and see what they say.... might see if they can make some kind of skid plate or something so that it doesnt happen again

Agree! They should be able to run a slightly larger and stronger bead on that seam.

 

thinking of asking them to put a 'skid plate' there so i am dragging something that is solid and not the thin muffler

 

Maybe ask the shop to fab up a small section of stainless, like a plate 1/4" or less thick, and weld along the sides of the muffler. As if the muffler has its own "skid plate". I just think the walls on the muffler will be almost too thin and it will be extremely easy to blow through if not careful. idk

 

If I do the plate I will have then attach it to inlet. So I had the cracks welded and there is still the pitter sound and the rattle got worse...wtf. I guess I need to get the car up on stands again and look at all the joints and make sure I didn't break an art pipe.

 

anyone have any good tips on finding exhaust leak, if it is not visible by soot? i read somewhere to hook a leaf blower up to tailpipe and then spray soapy water on all joints

thought about that but dont want to smoke out the complex.... they are weird here and you are not supposed to work on your car in the parking lot so i need something i can do in my garage. i went and got my moms leaf blower and will try that first. i do remember going over a piece of metal on the hwy the other day and come to think of it that is when the pitter started. i will examine the whole exhaust tommorrow for holes/cracks/loose joints....

While the car's cold and before you turn it on, shove some rags into the exhaust outlets or have somebody block them with their hands (with gloves on). While the outlets are being blocked, crawl underneath the car and put your hands around (don't touch) the welds. Alternatively, you can spray soapy water onto the piping. If you have a leak, you will either feel the warm/hot gas or see bubbling with the car just idling. Sometimes when the cracks are small or hidden away where you can't easily see/get to it, you can use a stethoscope-like tool to listen for the leak. Just keep in mind that not all cracks happen at the welds so don't forget to check the piping itself.

As far as rattling, you can attempt to locate it by just lightly pounding on the exhaust piping. Whatever is loose will rattle. If the rattling is RPM-dependent, you may need to get it on a lift and go through the revs, after which you can easily address the issue by dampening, welding, replacing, etc.

We found it. Apparently motordyne uses very thin metal for their mufflers so his muffler was cracked in two places.

 

I'm going to go test drive it and Beat the HELL out of it! Hahaha JK

Seeing what Honda is listing it for, what did they give you for it? The accord plus cash?

My gf bought a '14 Honda accord sport, same color, with black leather added back in October. It drives quite well and imo it's the nicest accord Honda has made.
