So I get my test pipes today, but there is an issue. I passed by a roadside emission test yesterday and was wondering if I would fail that with the pipes? It was on 35 and 121, they where on the side of the road with equipment out reading for emissions I guess.
Anyone care to shed some light on this?

So the police pulled you over and tested your exhaust?

No, there is a van with equipment on the side of the road that read your exhaust smog as you pass by. They say is 100% effective, and you will fail and then recieve a letter in the mail. You will have 7 days to comply with the law and get it fixed.

also if the test pipes throw a code I don't know anyone that can fix the code or tune the engine, I should have thought this threw a little better..

BTW, installing test pipes aren't that hard. You should be able to do them yourself, but make sure you have some long extensions for your ratchet and an elbow joint will help.
As far as throwing codes, HRs are more sensitive, so you most likely will. I know that when HRs first came out, they had trouble with the SES light, even with non-foulers. They were trying brillo pads and other steel wool. I stopped caring, but you should SEARCH. To get rid of them, you can do so temporarily with the reset procedure or flash it off permanently using UpRev (or similar), unless the HR guys found a solution to it (i.e., DEs can get away with non-foulers).

So if those are not an issue what about the police? If I get pulled over and my car smells like **** he would probably do a visual inspection right? Is it worth it? I mean how much trouble could I get in on the side of the road?

My emissions is due in March. I'll be in Cali polluting their air then. Just hope I make it home in June without getting stopped.

Have you been around a Z with test pipes? Maybe I'm biased since I've been running test pipes almost as long as I had the car, but the smell is not bad at all. At any rate, no cops have ever said anything to me. Also, each car has its own exhaust layout. Unless the cop decides to jack up your car and takes a look at your system, they won't know WTF they're looking at or you can get away with BS.

BTW, the sound is only bad with exhausts that are loud to begin with. If you have a quiet exhaust like I do (APS 2.5" TD), test pipes just make it sound raw.
