UTEC and Uprev actually compliment each other well... uprev adds injector scaling and fueling to deal with vacuum tuning (where you spend 99% of life) in addition to cam phasing. UTEC just pulls MAF voltage in vacuum which ends up with too much timing and lean fueling at low load - uprev fixes that. Injectors over 440cc are going to be a impossible to dial in properly without Uprev especially without a fuel return.

And while in boost, UTEC provides more reliable MAP based tuning, overboost cut and far better knock control.

Would definitely use it over uprev like str8dum said.

Map, boost control, safeguards, datalogging....and your not flashing your OEM ecu. Multiple maps, easy map switching without steering wheel controls...user tunable with free software.

The one I got was bricked when the old user attempted to flash the rom and (my guess) his battery died. He did not know how to fix this so he sold it as broken to me for 40 bucks. I re-reflashed it correctly and BAM! works. However I have not attached it to the Z because I am uncertain on how it works, a.k.a how do I just use it for monitoring and not have it override the stock ECU maps/ signals.

That is what I have been reading, its safer in my book that a uprev because if anything happens its as easy as unpugging it from the ecu. Now I am trying to get the software for monitoring, my only issue is the lack of professional tuners anywhere near me, and even though I am Na and I know I will benefit from a tune, I think the only thing I can do is blow the motor if I try it. : /

I plan to go FI in the future ( after the Z is paid and I get a used truck for DD) so I was on the edge about selling the utec and getting the uprev now. But I will keep the Utec and learn more on how to use it with n.a. Maybe I can find someone to help me out locally.

Interesting to hear a UTEC could blow coils. I have had to replace 3 coils in the 8-9 years my car has had UTEC installed.

Default utec problem

was wondering if anyone had any advice for me. I bought a used utec a while back, just installed it today. The car starts and idles fine but the check engine, tcs off, and slip lights all come on and i can not rev past 2k rpm. I can communicate with it through hyperterminal. I tried a few different maps and even when i use the 0 map the problem remains. Any help would be appreciated.
