UTEC 'Upgrade?'
Hey guys, this is Jeff from Jeffsoftware.com. I really want to get UTI running perfectly for all of you and with your help it can happen. For all of those that are having issues, please login to the site and submit a bug via the user control panel. Please also mention which cable you are using, either the USB or serial one. I do not know how UTI will respond to the USB setup so it is likely that I might need to make adjustments for that to work if it does not already.

Glad you joined us Jeff Im sure there will be plenty of questions. I have got everything working but how do you activate the knock status on the dashboard mine says disabled and I can not find were to enable it. I am using usb I think most of us are. Every now and then It will freeze up I think it has to do with the usb. But anyway. It is a great software for logging and tuning. Thanks

How are some of you connecting the LM-1? 1 usb for the UTEC and 1 USB for the LM-1? It would be awesome if my UTI had that info to log with as well...
Sorry for asking, just dont wanna spend 2 hours just to find out I'm doing it wrong.

Hi Jeff, I hope you can help. I have the TurboXS Tuner attached inline to my UTEC. The 9 pin serial wire goes from the UTEC to the Tuner, and the 15 pin O2 sensor line goes to the Tuner. The Tuner is connected to the laptop via a phone line looking cord that has a serial connector on the end going into the laptop. (This is the updated Tuner) So the whole thing is plugged into the serial port on the laptop. This setup works great with the Hyperterminal. It doesn't work with the UTI, because my A/F ratio reads "-1" all the time. I also can't see injector pulse width, which could be useful if I go to open loop tuning.
My first inclination is to go to the computer store and buy an additional 9 pin serial cable and a couple serial to USB adaptors to see if I can plug the Tuner and UTEC in separately. Any suggestions?

The Tuner works better with UTI than any of the other 3 widebands I have tried. Are you sure you are using the latest version? I did have some problems with the earlier versions but the latest ones have been flawless. Try switching between modes after connecting by hitting F1 and F2. Mine is connected same as yours, UTEC to Tuner and Tuner to PC.
No luck. The computer is receiving the data, because the "Realtime UTEC Log" shows the A/F ratio. It just won't transfer the data to the display or the logger. This sucks. So I have to go buy $60 worth of serial cable and an adapter and hope I can make the logger work by connecting the wideband seperately?

this program definately works with the tuner/utec combo in the traditional cable configuration that you mentioned earlier.
what version are you using? there have been some updates to the UTI3 program. I haven't tried the newest version 1.0.4 yet, but I saw that it just came out about a week ago.
I've read about a few different logger utilities such as MPS and Cipher, but what i'm looking for is some way to manipulate the UTEC's TXT map after I export it, then importing it back in and not getting a check sum error. I see a code at the bottom of different maps I export at the bottom right that seems to be the only thing that changes other than the fuel, timing and boost maps.
What do I need to calculate or do to overcome the bad checksum?
What about an easy way to offset the fuel map when going to bigger or smaller size injectors rather than doing a full cell to cell re-tune? I recently went from 440's to 550s and calculated my fuel map needed to be multiplied by .8, after exporting it in excel I had to remove all the brackets in order for the calculation to work. Needless to say I went in and removed all the brackets did the conversion then put them all back in, only for the utec to say bad checksum when tiring to load it back in.
I am running 2.8 firmware so I no longer have the built in offset thats in the manual.
I’m sure this all has been discussed before, but cant find it. Any help?
Thanks

Dv8 - To edit a map outside of the UTEC, you can use UTI-ME. I believe it still comes with the UTI logger program, or you can purchase it separately.

^ i read that there's latency between utec values and the one displayed on the program ( correct me if im wrong)
So i'll be using the UTEC pretty soon ( goin FI)
ive almost read the manual like 4 times already !
i might need ur help guys thoo

I use UTI-ME for all my tuning. Takes a little getting used to because instructions are sparse. It takes 3 or 4 runs to get it really close and then you can manually touch it up if you desire. I have also found that making multiple runs on the same table will average out much better than a single run.

Good luck with your tune!!! UTI-ME is so freaking retarded it is not even funny!! I tried the old and new version and both are freaking retarded!!! For example, I was running lean at 6000rpm and load 60, ME advised me to add 4 on the fuel which is fine. Then I looked at my 5000rpm and load 50 and realized I was running Rich, now guess what ME advice me to do!!! It said add 3 on the fuel
Do not just trust ME, better double check what values are being changed coz it will give you some fvvckup numbersIf you are using a third party WB then I WILL NOT TRUST THE ME!!!!!! With 3rd party WB there is a delay and that delay will lead you to making adjustment to the wrong rpm/load column. Even with the Tuner there is sometimes a 1 line delay on the A/F and with a 3rd party WB delay is inconsistent and that is why looking at the raw logs are better.
