In my experience, I've noticed that sometimes e-mails get replied to in minutes, other times many days later - maybe because they are on the phone a lot. That said, their phone support is really good and you will get an experienced tuner for tech support. Just give them a call if its urgent or send a follow up e-mail if it's not... Everyone at TurboXS is super friendly.

Who did the install? Is it properly grounded? There are a couple threads on this issue...

The original shop that did my UTEC install grounded it to the underside of the dashboard mount by wrapping the bare wire around a grometized mount... Shoddy... The ground fluctuated according to my ohm meter during road testing...

So I crimped a connector to the ground wire and relocated it to the chassis per TXS. And also ran a dedicated ground for my ECU here as well... Now it reads a solid consistent ground.

Yeah... Upper RPM stuttering usually indicates a bad/ fluctuating ground....

Besides the ground wire in the molex plug, I grounded the case with a thick wire to my central grounding point. don't forget to ground the stock ECU if you remove the stock bracket (I guess only us G35 people do that).

I know at least one other person that also has this problem. He's been unable to resolve it to date AFAIK.

With this map set correctly you gain resolution but also it becomes much easier to tune, in the VE correction map. I also will be getting the launch control, flat shift etc. back into the software suite.

As we get closer I will let you know.

Hey Jermaine,

Could you drop us a hint as to where things stand? Thanks man!

Bumpity. Come on TurboXS - this space is becoming crowded with competition, especially in the NA world.

I bought this unit largely on promised features that are still undelivered...

What kind of problems you talking about? Install it properly and it should work fine, unless it's defective of course. If that's the case TurboXS will send you another one immediately - great customer service. I've not heard of UTECs breaking down over time...

I want to try to help clear up some things regarding some problems that customers have experienced with the 350Z UTEC. If you have had a UTEC on your vehicle and it has been tuned and runs well, none of this pertains to you. If you are having any problems, please read below.

There have been two different issues that we are aware of:

1. Immediate CEL, no throttle response, slow revving to 2000 rpm. This is a software problem that can be fixed by reloading the Throttle Software on the DBW processor on the UTEC. This is a simple process that is explained in the manual. I would also be happy to walk anyone through the process on the phone. This software is available on the CD shipped with the UTEC and is available on our website for download.

2. More recently we have had several UTECs cause a steep drop off in power in the 4800-6200rpm rev range. These UTECs run the car fine under idle, cruise, and low load driving conditions. The problem does not manifest itself until you are under load or aggressively accelerating the vehicle. This problem should not be confused with massive knock events and/or poor tuning which could cause the same "symptom"of power drop off. There is no way to "tune this problem out".

We currently have all of our engineering resources working to understand what is causing this recent problem and what we can do to fix it. Until we have a solid answer to those questions, we will not ship any more 350Z UTEC's. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

If you are experiencing any of these problems or have any questions or concerns, please call us directly toll free at 877.887.2679 and ask to speak to me, Jermaine or to Mark McGovern, the owner.

a combination of old firmware or poor grounding has led to problems in the past. The issues are resolved w/ the current utecs. Most subscribing to this thread are waiting for the now overdue software update that provides a window gui, more resolution, and other features not present in the current firmware...

UpRev's new Osiris ECU update software seems to offer everything the UTEC does and more for an NA car... 100% throttle opening... remove speed limit... raise rev limit... ECU won't learn around settings when they are flashed with Osiris...

The only advantage I see in using a UTEC on n NA car is that a tuner can adjust the tune based on his dyno readings... Osiris currently needs maps to be created by UpRev, but UpRev is making the ability to create maps and edit the ECU parameters in the future.

Any reason to get a UTEC for an NA car?
