Question Can any EMS adjust timing based on shifts (5AT)?

Hi Guys, still planning my route to FI in my 2004.5 5AT G35 coupe...

For the 5AT, my understanding is that the stock ECU retards timing before a shift and advances after a shift (to reduce power during a shift and save the wear and tear on the tranny).

My question: do any of the stand-alone EMS systems preserve this functionality?

I looked through the UTEC manual and I could see no way to retard timing based on shift. Ideally I would think a global timing override during a shift would be a great feature (maybe linked to TPS also so only WOT shifting would be affected etc).

Any thoughts?

E-manage Ultimate has timing control between shifts on AT.

thanks for the confirmation... (sigh) makes the decision on an EMS harder unfortunately.

maybe with a VB, the AT will be ok; but I figure if at stock torque Nissan went to the trouble to do this, then with double that torque, I should make double sure to preserve this safety feature...

If you get a VB the car will shift rather firmly. I have one on my car with a vortech set up. You can feel the jerk from the gears switching.

Sharif in the other thread suggested that nobody has got this feature on EU to work. It would be nice, though, since even unmodded AT is too rough for my taste.

Recently i`ve tested the car with the base map on UTEC just to see how is the feeling with the UTEC, the car jumps on each shift and feels more stronger !! but does this thing hurts my Transmission ? BTW this is aint FI so i guess the Transmission can handle it because it can handle FI with low boost.

Even N/A, I'm sure it causes two things to happen: higher temps and more wear and tear.

When I get my UTEC for NA tuning (prior to going FI), I will have a tranny cooler already installed and plan on changing the tranny fluid at a higher interval than recommended (30k miles >>> 20k miles).

Today i`ve tested the car again but this time i`ve adjusted the rev limiter on UTEC from 72 to 70, guess what ? i hit the Rev Limiter twice !! one time from 1st to 2nd, and the other run from 2nd to 3rd :/ this Lag on 5AT is annoying me big time !!!, BTW i have Grounding Kit with the 10 Wires, but didn`t connect it to the Tranny itself, i`ve connect it temporaty to the Tranny fluid level gauge, another thing i guess i did it the TCU !! where the hell is it ?? i`ve mounted the Wire to a White thing near the ECU dunno what its :P its held by Copper Bolt thats the TCU ? in stock mode i don`t have any problems to shift at exactly 6.9 RPM but with UTEC i should not touch the 7.2 RPM at all because this is the correct range specially for 5AT.

I might put a 36 mm Koyo Radiator, with Engine Cooler and Tranny Cooler, if i didn`t get any improvement, i might do Valve Body Upgrade as well Torque Converter if possible.

are you hitting the rev limiter in auto mode? that's weird. I don't think the UTEC should affect the shift points at all.

I connected grounding wires to the tranny and to the ecu (Gord's kit per his instructions) and there was a marked improvement in shift time. Actually I think what really happened is the delay in the initiation of the shift went to 0. The shift time didn't actually change. However the electronic delay was significant but it's gone now as evidence by the electronic display changing instantaneously when you flick the lever (as opposed to a fraction of a second delay in the display, followed by another 1/4-1/2 second delay for the mechanical shift to occur).

No for sure in Manual Mode, i`ve PM`ed Gord to get more details about the grounding points, it seems that i didn`t install the kit properly.

other than this the car in Auto Mode at WOT it shifts a lot a lot more than before its so smooth.

but believe me i can handle it more after the grounding kit, the kit will eliminate some part of the lag, just part of it not all the lag !! i only need a Valve Body Upgrade now to completely kill the lag

Grounding will not help with lag for sure
TCU or TCM (Transmission control module) is part of the VB (valve body), i.e. it is inside of the transmission. You can not see or acces it externally.
I believe you need a VB and torque converter upgrade.

Guys, I think he was talking about the grounding points for the Utec itself, not a grounding kit. They had a problem with them and some of the Utec's were actig wierd in the higher rpm's.

No I think he was talking about grounding gear helping out the speed of AT shifts, which it does.

But there's still a delay that can only be improved with a VB upgrade...
