Default How does the stock speed limiter actually work?

just curious. I know the UTEC still can't raise the rev limit on revup engines. so I was wandrering why. then, I asked myself how the stock system works (revup or not doesn't matter). is it just a rev signal period? in this case it's a rev limiter as opposed to a speed limiter. but the manufacturer says it's "limited" to 250km/h (even though the display on mine has read 262 without a sign of a limit). any guru care to explain this? thanks a million

I'm no guru, but I suspect when your speedo was reading 262 you must have been very close to hitting your limit, unless someone has altered the ECU. I believe our cars have a fuel cutoff at the redline, plus a speed limiter at 155mph.

I have got too 159mph in my car and 158 in a testdrive 06z. Mine would not go over 159mph. This was on the digital speedo so i have no idea how accurate it is...

so it would be 2 different measurements then? revs AND speed? could be I guess, just curious to find out exactly. no, my ecu is stock (+UTEC, but that cannot alter the speed limit on my revup)

ok, so let me rephrase: how does the UTEC change the rev limit on non revups? Can the UTEC (or any other piggyback) get rid of the speed limiter?

Yeah, I called technosquare, they said they will take off my speed limiter for $365. My utec can control the rev limiter though.

my question is: how is it done? and what is the difference, if indeed there is one, between the rev limiter and the speed limiter?

I think there are several members here that can answer that question off the top of their heads, but have not chimed in. It may be in the FSM, but it's not very user-friendly, and I'm not in an FSM-friendly mood.
