Osiris from Uprev
I've been playing with the new ROM I installed using Osiris for a week now. I was going to email Jared a few questions, but I thought maybe someone else could benefit from the answers.
1. Is there any way to tell which map is presently loaded w/o forcing a new map with the cruise control buttons?
2. What happens to the 'learning' the ECU has done on a particular map when we switch to another? Does it keep the learning until the next time that map is selected, or does it start from scratch again?
3. What does "Make sure your ECU is set up in the wide band conversion" mean? I've read the Cipher manual, I've stepped through the WB Conversion section of the Options, and I'm still not sure what I'm suppose to do. My O2 sensor is listed, as is my ECU. Is something else suppose happen, or is that it?
4. What does an 'Economode' map involve beside the AFR and RPM/speed limit? What happens to the power potential of the engine while in this mode?
5. Is there a way to detect pre-ignition w/o listening for it? That sounds so ghetto. Can we log knock sensor output with Cipher?
6. Are there any specific instructions for the 0-60 runs for the purpose of fine-tuning the maps? Such as, do we have to take it to the redline, or does the pedal need to be floored for valuable data to be obtained?
That's all for now. I have looked through the manual and the FAQs for answers, and don't think they have been addressed here either.

Any time estimated for the end user version yet?

I'm relatively certain UPREV is aware of market value and is working diligently on making it happen… and when it’s ready, the question will be answered. (just my .02)
"End User" is pseudo possible from a licensed tuner already... has been for quite some time.
I hope this doesn’t offend anyone - I've notice the various forums have a bit of an edge to them lately...

I was asking for an estimate, not an exact release date
Shawn Church has quite a few licences available as it stands for 600 including a tune....but its not end user adj
Thus, my question for an estimated time.....a month or so....two months....not Dec 15 at 930am PST
I'll do you one better and ask if people who buy the tuner supplied licenses get a break on the end user upgrade?
Is that a sufficient question or are we going to stick to "dont ask questions, youll get info when they are ready?"
Updates are why we come back to this thread, even small ones

I summarized it for you. Sorry if the truth hurts.

Having advanced inside info is why we post
Save your "thoughts" unless you know for sure whether or not something is happening, spare us your inner feelings
My question was directed to UpRev so that others can get the question answered without having to bug UpRev directly....
If you want to ponder the inner workings of human beings and why we do what we do feel free to post your questions in the OT forums, not in a thread designed for the sole purpose of DISCUSSING/SHARING whatever information WE have as a board for the community as a whole
Posting "why do people even ask questions, god, the info will come when it gets here" ....why even bother posting your personal thoughts? Was it just too tough to keep inside?
FYI --- its a forum, we may post questions that others may answer....and it may not be UpRev directly as other members/OSIRIS users may chime in with their experiences/relayed info from UpRev
Sorry if reality hurts and people sharing info bothers you, but thanks for sharing your inner thoughts
We were all dying to know what YOU thought about people asking questions in a forum for asking questions and trading info

I'll try to give it my best, and it won't be pretty, sorry:
1) I'm not sure, I couldn't tell either. I had to confirm with Jared which maps were in which location. For me it's: stock, tune, valet, stock, stock
2) I'm not sure what you mean by learning? Cipher sets a set of AFR targets that the ECU will attempt to meet. As far as I am concerned, there is no more learning. These are what it is after and what it will try to achieve.
3) I had a really hard time figuring this out to begin with. When you first connect to your ECU via Cipher, it will pop up your ECU. For me, it's 23710-CM41C. Write it down. Then click on File -> Options. Go down to "Wideband Conversion". From there, it will pull up a list of "Known Sensors". Click on the only one there (unless you're in beta, there will be a choice for a Titan which you obv don't have). If you have just the regular Cipher, there will be nothing on the ECU. From here, you want to enter in your ECU number. After that, it will have Wideband conversion.
4) I'm assuming Economode is Valet mode, or however we want to refer to it. Basically it will cut fuel off at a certain RPM and will not allow it to travel faster than a set speed. I think mine is 3500RPM and 25MPH.
5) I honestly don't know. I don't think so though.
6) What I have found best and from talking to a lot of people, you want to get as much data as possible. But more specifically, you want as much data representing Wide Open Throttle. What I found the easiest was to find an on ramp on a highway (don't tell anyone). Put it in 3rd gear and at around 10MPH or so, gun it all the way up to redline (90ish, depends on your year). That will lot a lot of WOT data. For what you need to be logging, these are the bare minimums (I forget the actual, but you can only log so much):
AFR (Make sure your ECU is set up in the wide band conversion. See Cipher user guide)
Accelerator position (either one)
Base fuel schedule
Calculated load
Coolant temp
Engine speed (RPM)
Ignition timing advance
Throttle position (either one)
The fuel correction can be helpful for tuning idle as well, but that’s about it.
That is according to Jared.
These are the exact parameters that I log:
A/F CORR-B1 (%)
A/F CORR-B2 (%)
AFR WB-B1 (AFR)
AFR WB-B2 (AFR)
A/F WB-B1 (V)
A/F WB-B2 (V)
ACCEL PED POS 1 (V-Accel)
B-FUEL SCHDL (ms)
CAL/LD VALUE (%)
COOLANT TEMP (F)
ENGINE RPM (rpm)
IGN TIMING (BTDC)
INJ PULSE-B1 (ms)
INJ PULSE-B2 (ms)
INTAKE AIR TMP (F)
MAF GM/S (gm/s)
MAS A/F -B1 (V)
THROTTLE POS 1 (V-Throttle)
VEHICLE SPEED (mph)
HOPE THIS HELPS. If not, sorry
I am also finally going back to the dyno next week. The two things I have added were XO2 exhaust and Throttle Body Spacer. I will be doing pulls on the stock map to try and compare from the original 268HP and then doing pulls on the tuned map to get some more data. Hopefully there will be some good gains with the tune already. I know I bothered the hell out of UpRev for the beta software but I honestly have been so busy with work, moving and grad school that I haven't had a chance to dive into the software.
Thanks App6MT, I got a reply from Uprev yesterday. Here's the questions and answers straight from the horse's mouth. I hope this type of info eventaully makes it to a Users Guide or at least the FAQ.
1. Is there any way to tell which map is presently loaded w/o forcing a new map with the cruise control buttons?
A. The only way to tell what map you are in is to switch again and watch the set light blink.
2. What happens to the 'learning' the ECU has done on a particular map when we switch to another? Does it keep the learning until the next time that map is selected, or does it start from scratch again?
A. The learning doesn't get cleared when you switch maps. So if you're running you tuned map then switch to stock, it will start learning the stock map, but it will learn from where it was. Then when you switch back to the tuned map it will have to start learning again. Basically every time you switch it has to start learning again, unless the maps are very similar (like a low octane tune verses a high octane tune).
A. As long as your ECU is listed under the WB sensor part number you should be good to go. When you go to log you should get an option to log "A/F Ratio" along w/ the other parameters. If there aren't any "ratio" parameters to choose from then something is not right.
4. What does an 'Economode' map involve beside the AFR and RPM/speed limit? What happens to the power potential of the engine while in this mode?
A. That's pretty much it for the Econo mode. Other than the lean AFR targets and low rev limit it is just like the sock tune. The Econo mode will make even less power than the stock tune due to the lean mixtures at low RPMs.
5. Is there a way to detect pre-ignition w/o listening for it? That sounds so ghetto. Can we log knock sensor output with Cipher?
A. Currently we can't log knock w/ the ECU. We're working on a couple of solutions, but for now the best way is to listen or look at your logs. If there is a large drop in ignition when at WOT then the ECU is probably pulling advance. Ignition should climb w/ RPM at WOT.
6. Are there any specific instructions for the 0-60 runs for the purpose of fine-tuning the maps? Such as, do we have to take it to the redline, or does the pedal need to be floored for valuable data to be obtained?
A. For eTuning we can only tune for WOT (for the most part). I also make adjustments to partial throttle areas of the map, but they are all based off of what is going on at WOT.

I have a question about the Osiris software. When I get it, can I just "tune" or "flash" my stock ECU? Is this a flash or does it operate like a piggyback?
My car is currently tuned with a F-Con VPro and a GTM Flash, which does many things this Osiris is supposed to do.
But if I get more mods in the future, like change out an exhaust or something, is Osiris something I can use in junction with the F-Con or is it completely useless in my situation?
Car has APS TT and all the basic mods.

Since all the stock ECU controls are maintained the manipulations are seamless since the ECU maps/learning curve is maintained and not forced to see something that isnt happening (piggy back, black box etc) The A/F targets are reset within the ecu so as it learns, its learning to hit the better targets instead of the stock targets......so instead of a tune getting "washed" away it actually gets closer to the ideal target you set
I think the stock ECU is capable of seeing around 450whp or so? OSIRIS can rescale injectors so it might be an MAF issue for now...perhaps OSIRIS will develope a larger MAF calibration/scaling ability so we can use V8 mafs for higher whp targets??
I think OSIRIS is able to tune the cam timing.....can the FCON PRO do that? Otherwise I think the VPRO should be able to do ALOT, its a very powerful unit....if you have an FCON VPRO and it can tune cam timing I dont think it would be worth it to switch at this point IMO anyway
For people like me without a tune, OSIRIS is a viable inexpensive way to tune light mods/low boost setups
This is all as I understand it and have seen it played with --- very impressive in the rights hands and the price is just gravy

In your case... Since you already have a flash by GTM and an F-Con VPro, probably installed by GTM, I would not recommend installing Osiris.
If you get more mods or change something, I would recommend getting in touch with George or one of the GTM guys and touching base with them before you reflash your ECU.
I think GTM's flash is designed to work with their VPro installation. I think it has code to handle CELs and stuff like that. This information is based on reading posts by George... I have no real knowledge of GTM's practices... I just don't want to you to do anything you'll regret later.

Going down for a simple flash is not so easy lol.
