Too much ECU?

Too much ECU?
I got a stock block and a powerlab kit, injectors, fuel pump, JIC exhaust, spec clutch/flywheel, and haltech on the way. I decided to look around for a tuner and get an estimate(since this is my first time getting a car tuned). The First shop i called told me that the haltech is "too much ecu for what i am doing" and that i should go with a smaller piggyback ecu. Is there such thing as too much ecu, especially if i plan to build the block later down the road? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

i think their is never to much ecu plus your planning on building the block so youll have it already. As long as you have a good tuner you can still benefit over a piggyback at stock block level. Way more parameters to play with and more adjustable options on top of the many safety features that a haltech (standalone) has over a piggyback.
Just find the right guy to bad your all the way up their down here in S. florida their is a great tuner that he mainly does haltechs. Tuned my car and its day and night difference on top of the fact that my car runs strictly of the haltech because of the 2jz swap stock ECU dont do much anymore. Just make sure you have the right guy even if he is more expensive the right tune can save you money and make the car more fun.

I've noticed shops poo'pooin ECU options that are not to their preference quite often. I suppose it would be too difficult to mention you are not 100% comfortable tuning a certain ecu management option.

I agree that its 'too much ecu' for what the OP is trying to accomplish. Now, does that mean it won't work, or won't work well? Absolutely not. Just that its much more comprehensive and involved than what really needs to be. Like building yourself a 16 core computer with 32gb of ram and RAID fiber channel drives to check your email and type school papers. Will it work? Absolutely. Are there better solutions for less money and less complication? You betchya.

how did you know????????? he told him to go with hydra. and no i dont have anything against VTR. just answering questions. He did say that hydra was even too much. but the op does plan on a full build later on so I would think its a waste to go with something else and then have to upgrade later on.

As a local, I'd love to know who it is. I know VTR has their own preferred hardware but "too much ECU" doesn't seem like them at all. With 1000+ hp builds under their belts that would not seem like VTR's attitude toward tuning.

Lol sorry guys my internet was out yesterday.... But yeah my first call was VTR. I herd a lot of good things about the shop. Basically what i was told is that even the Hydra would be too much for what i was doing. I'm new to tuning (thats why i had to double check). But anyways does anyone know any good shops that can tune using a haltech? I'm probably going to call up AAM and make that far trip.
