Default Haltech Stock Base MAPS

After a couple months of sporatic hunting, I haven't really found an answer. So as much as I hate to do it, here's a new thread

Car: 2003 g35 6mt (DE with Manual Cams)

The Haltech has a 350Z 'base map' available, this doesn't say what year or engine though.

What I'm hoping for is a set of MAPs that mimics or is near-identical to the stock MAPS. This is where I want to start my tuning experience from, and work with it as I go along with mods and learning to tune properly.

I hope you guys can take a minute to point me in the right direction, is the 350Z base map that Haltech has close to the stock map? Any experiences with this map?

TIA

Yes, the base map that comes preloaded in the Haltech software is a good starting place for a stock car. Every motor is different, so I would recommend dialing it in with a proper dyno tune.

Thanks for taking the time Hal.

My personal hopes are to tune the stock engine to learn how to tune a bit better without having to shell out the money for a base tune N/A.

This is because as soon as I'm comfortable/able, boost will come into play. At which point I'll absolutely be paying for a proper base tune.

You mean paying for a FINAL tune. The base tune is what's on it as a starting point. Once you tune it then you have a "final" tune since it's no longer the first "base" tune.

Yes I suppose you're right, the tuner will start with a base and create his final tune from there.

My thoughts are, I'm likely going to tweak from that as mods come on, as such, his tune will become my base tune......

lol.

ok, i thought that's what you meant. I wasn't trying to be an *** but I was hoping you wouldn't drive to a tuner for them to just setup a base tune and charge you for it.

O.K., so my process on this has started. I've hit some issues with this base tune.
The pre-set MAP tuning is fine, things run half-arsed good enough and close enough.

The issue I"m having is tuning with AFR correction. As soon as I switch it to MAF/AFR tuning the car runs as much as 5-6 AFR leaner than target.
If I put the target AFR at like 10.0 then it'll run near 14.7....

This to me is a very poorly calibrated MAFS table, I've hit up Matt from Haltech and he is going to do some re-testing with the 350z to re-check, I"m hoping a new base map comes out that is more MAF tune Friendly from this.

I'm making MAF Calibration changes as high as 150% to correct the issue, crazy stuff, it's also a big pita process, but I"m plucking away at it!

Thats the entire part of every car is different. You are adjusting your fueling tables right, and not messing with the MAF calibration?

Ya, you should just adjust the fueling tables and leave the maf part alone.

Why don't you tune on MAP like most people do? You said yourself it was working just fine so get rid of the crappy oem MAF and use MAP based.

Yes I am changing the MAF calibration.
For whatever reason it's just way off. I'd have to change the fuelling tables as much as 200% or more to correct it. I've tested the MAF calibration by locking everything else in and holding one MAF/Load point while datalogging.

Because fuel isn't changing at this point because everything's locked in, then a AFR that is different from target must be due to an air flow calibration issue or an intake leak after the MAFS, right?

Anyways I am going to take the advice and try the MAP tuning also just to see how that goes. I'm confident that if the MAFS base map was done properly it would run just as well or better.

hmm, i'm wondering if something might me wrong with your maf or like you mentioned an air leak. I didn't have any issues running the supplied maf tune after adjusting the map for my injector size. I only tested it out then of course switched to map because the maf won't read high enough for the boost pressures I use an I like the map tuning better.

You can always increase the resolution on your vac portion of the fuel table when using MAP tuning. I have mine set every 1inhg so I can have it fine tuned when driving around.
