Default XEDE ecu: any updates

I dyno'd my car the other day and learned I am in serious need of something to control my crazy a/f ratio. I know that the xede has been in the testing phases but have not heard any new info as to if it is available and what kind of numbers I can expect. I do know you can adjust a/f and timing, but other than that I don't think you can raise the rev-limiter. If anyone has anything to add please feel free and keep us all updated.

As of right now, I believe I am the only one with the xede, and I had my car personally tuned by those at vishnu. We did around 60 dyno pulls and I gained basically 10-15 pounds of torque throughout the entire rpm band. Give them a call, and see what they can do for you. I dont have hi-flow cats, so your map will be different.

can you give me an idea of how much it costs and all the functions it is capable of. How much horsepower did you gain? How long does the install take?

60 PULLS?!?!?!?!

GEEEEEEZ... Talk about overkill. No excuse for that many runs to tune.

That is a lot of pulls but keep in mind that the XEDE is a different product from what is currently available for our car. After the R&D is done for various setups, maps will be downloadable for others and then can be finetuned by the user. Typically the XEDE is like 900 bucks but I have not seen a price for the Z applicaiton yet. I guess when you want a perfect map for others to use, you do 60 pulls to get every RPM to pump as much power as possible instead of a close estimate type tune that most offer now. I guarantee that TS, for EXAMPLE, could make more power out of every tune they do but with each dyno pull and more time spent programming, it becomes less worth it as the price is set on the TS tune at 600. It isn't as important to find that one missing HP at 3560 RPMs. Just my theory.

Phoenix,

Would you care to explain why you believe it is overkill and that there is no excuse for that many runs?

A lot of various things have been said about Shiv over the years, but one thing most have agreed upon is that he is skilled at extracting power.

Therefore, if you have good information as to why he didn't need to run that many dyno runs to get the information he needed to properly set up a map for the car, please do share with the rest of us.

287HP

Did you ever re-dyno your car on the Dynojet after the Xede and tuning?

No, I have not redynoed on a dynojet! I am going to do headers, plenum, and hi flo cats, and then I will re-dyno on a dynojet. After I do that, I am going to get the car retuned by vishnu. For what it is worth, I was at 238 rwhp after the xede was installed; an m3 pulls around 245 rwhp on the same dyno. And I would agree that shiv knows what the hell he is doing. Z's aren't turbocharged from the factory, so obviously it is harder to extract power out of the engine. Also, I have not seen so far, any ecu, that bumps up the torque down low as much as the xede.

First of all, 60 pulls is not even that much. I know of a bunch of lancers that are requiring upward of 100 pulls to get it right. Vishnu's shop car(lancer evolution) has done over 4000 dyno pulls. You can in no way, tune a car in just a couple of pulls, if you do not have a preset map for the mods on the car.

FLY BY Z, I have been reading your posts for a while now, and I have got to tell you that you are one of the more educated members on this forum. Thanks for all of the good info!

Install took about 45 minutes. Gained 6 peak hp, but made good torque gains throughout the entire rpm band (10-15 lbs). And it costs $895.00 +tax

No offense... if this guy is THAT particular... tell him to knock himself out.

I have been present for many Z32TT and Supra tuning sessions, base map to tuned...

It was done in FAR less than 60... Base map can be drawn in under 10.

Intuitive tuning can be had in 20 or less and issue near perfect results.

287HP,

I look forward to the update once you have all your mods and tuning done. The only reason I asked if you had the car re-dynoed at the dynojet was for better comparison of what your car did with the mods but without the XEDE.

Phoenix,

Were these the first Z32TT or Supra ever tuned with that particular tuning device (S-AFC, Stand-alone, etc)? Also, were these tunes going to be the basis for something sold to people in various locals?

Keep in mind this is the second 350Z to have the XEDE installed and tuned, IIRC. And the first with cams.

When Shiv does tuning days across the country, he doesn't do 60 pulls for each car. He can get the cars tuned with much fewer, but this is because he has done all the R&D for that car and similar mods and starts with a good idea where things need to be for that particular model.

Phoenix,

Type in the name shiv pathak & vishnu tuning in your internet search engine to find out who he is. The man puts food on the table by tuning cars; I think he knows what the hell he is doing!

It's called R&D bro! Don't think for a second that TS got there on just a few pulls, as a matters of fact I'll bet TS has thousands of pulls to their credit while doing the R&D on their ECU flashes and that's why they're getting such good results. Keep in mind that the Xede is NOT in production as of yet...it's still in the R&D stages.

i think my Z had a few hundred while prototyping the TS ECU. :P

remember.. dyno pull x3.. look at data. change ECU software upload.... wait 20 minutes for upload. and dyno pull x3, change software, wait another 20 for the upload and do it all over again... this was ofcourse, before any of the data points on the maps was known..

max,

It's interesting that you don't mention Al, the other "vendor." Shiv and Al know each other from the old WRX days. They have been having these heated discussions for a long time. That said, from my time on evom most people have put the blame for the ridiculous flame-wars squarely on the shoulders of Al. Then there is the whole Buschur Racing vs. Vishnu debate, which is mostly egged on by supporters from the two camps.

Before you speak about someone as if you know them, maybe you should meet him and talk to him yourself. He may stay in those arguments a little too long, but he also now is one of the most well known Evo tuners.

That said, Vishnu Racing, the company is a very good company. I have only heard of a few bad experiences buying from them, no more so than any other company. The products they produce are top-notch, a touch on the high price side, but they are usually worth every penny. On top of that, the dyno tuning days that Shiv travels out to and does across the country are a major selling point for me.

If I owned an Evo, I would have a hard time choosing between Vishnu and Buschur for a lot products.

Soooo, Shiv,

Any Updates? Got an FI Z at the shop yet?
