when you finally get to the dyno, you'll probably see that that's where all the power is. i don't think the car generates much after the 6k rpm range (but then again, that could be attributed to the drop in a/f).

can't wait to see your results. i've been thinkin' about this mod for a while, but with no real dyno time, it's useless. and dyno time adds up! good luck and keep us posted!

Default your ecu

hello there, i was just reading some thread about tuning a/f ratios and im interested in find out more about ur xede setup. because i have some mods coming up and i'll still want to tune it properly to get the full potential from it. some questions like how did u tune your ecu, how much it cost and where to get it. thanks alot! and happy holidays!

I am glad to see other people using piggyback's to tune their Z's. The xede has worked great for me!

I'll be getting a dyno done on 1/8/05. I'll post the results up soon after that. I am shooting for the mid to high 250's. We'll see.

Well, I am not sure what you mean by xede setup. I am running the GReddy eManage which is just a piggyback ECU unit that "enhances" the ECU in the car. Your best bet is to check out http://www.mohdparts.com/emanage/#SHOPPING_START_POINT. They have everything you need on there.

i hate to ask this, cuz i kno i can defenitely find the answer to this question, but what is the ideal a/f ratio across the rpms?

Well, it depends on how your'e running. If your N/A (like me) then you want to be in the mid 12's across the board to get the most hp. If you are FI then you want to run a little richer to get good hp gains along with a decent margin of safety. You definitely do NOT want to run lean while boosting. That will cause your engine to make really bad noises for a few moments... then go sleepy night night.

Thought I would trawl the net to learn a bit about Air fuel ratios...

The stock Corvette ZO6 has 15:1 at 2000 RPM , 12.5:1 at 5250RPM and 13:1 at 6500 RPM.

I remember reading that the optimum A/R for power is 12.8 - 13.2:1 and that 16:1+ is possible at lower RPM and smaller throttle openings.

Cheers

Paul

True...optimum A/F ration depends on RPM and engine load. If you are crusiing along at 1/8 throttle, then even 15:1 is fine...since there is no load on the motor. But once you go WOT, you will want to quickly be between 11.5:1 and 13.2:1 depending on your particular setup...F/I..N/A...etc....

yea i was also looking for a crash course in a/f rations so i can further understand what it is...i heard of our ECUs going into safe mode and tuning itself if we through in different variable (mods) and it'll just tune or detune itself to stock numbers making our mods useless until tuned w/ a piggyback unit of a reflash, thats why im looking into the eManage once my mods are on and either tuning it myself so i can get its full potential. $300 for the emanage+$150 for the easy wiring harness (no soldering) and laptop (which i already have...and i'll need a a/f meter/guage too...but..i can tune my car to the appropriate settings to my mods...

Where have you seen an "easy" wiring harness for $150?? The cheapest I've seen them are like $350.

Question compatibility.....

by the way chris, do you know if the soldering points are the same for the G35? i'm sure the ecu's are the same, but i wonder if all the pins are. can you see if it says anything about it in the manual? thanks in advance.

??? it's pretty much the same engine so I would imagine that they would be the same, but I really have no idea. I only have the 350Z service manual and it only covers the Z. It says nothing about G35s.

N!ck,
They are identical, unless you have an early gen 'AT sedan'.

Great Chris, really great!

Thanks to you I had to order an e-manage system from Mohd. Spent over 500 USD and got a superb service and a great system.

Keep on posting so my money can flow into the economy! Your post helped me a lot!

THANKS
Toni

hey chris thanks for posting your experiences, it prompted me to go ahead and buy the e-manage and zeitronix wideband.

I had an initial dyno tonight with 249.65. hp and 230.87 tq . This is with the jwt popcharger and crawford plenum.....straight pipes on next.....

I had been slightly concerned with the a/f ratios and the dyno came up with 14.2:1 @ 4300 rpms, so I guess it's a good thing, and much more cost effective than a reflash, which I don't want to have to do until I get a TT.
