Hmmm... now there's purple fuzz and it crashes after 5 seconds! Codecs hate me.

Yep, and I already had divx, 3ivx, and xvid. They just don't like me.

I think mine was 5.1... and no GAIN. I think GAIN is the popup adware?

Yup. Delete GAIN after install (don't unistall).
