If you are really interested in reading the UOAs and would like to know more, please see Resolute's original thread. We are all in his debt for this wealth of information.

My guess is you don't want to read that, so know this. UOAs are tests done on used oil, looking for metals that indicate engine wear and testing how well the oil stood up to use. You are not too far off with the "thinner and thicker" logic, however the oil recommended to you (M1 0w-40) tends to run "thinner," however even this can be misleading as it will still provide adequate protection at cooler temps (hence the 0w.)
To answer your question, two oils that have proven themselves and are readily available at your local auto parts store:
German Castrol, or "European Formula 0w-30"
AND
Mobil 1 0w-40.
Both have had excellent results for both VQ35DEs and VQ35HRs.

I'm still kinda curious, since I live in Arizona where it's always fairly hot if I would benefit from running a thicker oil from the start?
I know at operating temperature they are the same, at least 5w-30 / 10w-30 but would I benefit from runing a 10w/15w from the start?
For Arizona I was thinking10w-40 ( winter ) / 15w-40 ( summer )

i know mobil1 0w40 best there is at any local store . . .
but how much better is it than the M1 5w30 ?
currently using M1 5w30 and thinking about going to 0w40
just wanted to compare the OAs for the two
any links to OAs ?

I have been a lifelong user and drove over 600,000 miles on M1,I have a 2008 and have used M1 since I purchased this beauty at 24K on the odometer.I have seen the multiple threads on M1 and I am going to stick with it...
I havent had an oil analysis and dont plan on it,but props to the guys who are putting up results and others who are breaking it down.

Did another oil change this past weekend. Already sent the sample to Blackstone. The last oil used was German Castrol 0W-30 and K&N oil filter for 2,500 miles and 9 months time.
However, this time I went with Castrol Edge 5W-30 oil and Purolator One oil filter. I will send another sample when I do another oil change in November before winter storage. Looking forward to see how Castrol Edge 5W-30 fare with GC 0W-30.
