I was running royal purple 5w 30 in my car till I had it sent off to injected to have the motor built and when they got it and pulled the cams out they ended up having to polish the cams they were scuffed up badly and motor only had 6000 miles on it and I only put synthetic in it when motor hit about 4000 miles but I also changed my oil at 1500 miles using just regular mobile 5w 30...and my friend has a supra and royal purple did the exact same thing to his cams...since the motor has been rebuiltnand turbod I've been running nuthin but regular 10w40 mobil in the car and pulled valve covers of just to check and cams are perfect after about 4500 miles on new motor...

He just kept talking in one long, incredibly unbroken sentence, moving from topic to topic so that no one had a chance to interrupt. It was really quite hypnotic.

I hope most of you know royal purple is just about the shittiest oil u can run in the Z. If you want to run a good oil go with some Motul, castrol edge, or Amsoil... Something KNOWN to be compatable with the 350z. Also spend the extra money and get a quality oil filter(mobile1, k&n) lol at all you people using fram, wix, and just another oem filter

I lost one of my VG30DETT's to that oil. I used nothing but Motul and Castrol Syntec. I got talked into putting Royal Purple for the track event and chewed up some bearings. After that I built the Engine, ran nothing but Motul on it. Took it in 2 years and thousands of miles driving to willow springs, and button willow for just for track events (Drifting and Auto Cross) pounding it on the rev limiter and to this day the new owner still beats the hell out of it without a problem.

I just took out castrol synthetic in the black container. After 4900 miles not a single drop burned. And i beat her like she owes me money( Cuz she does )
Just put it castrol edge(Gold bottle) its supposed to be better and last 15k miles. Ill probly take her to 7-9k. It was only 4 bucks more for the 5 qt jug

I think castrol edge is a great oil, but i still get my oil changed probly every 3,000 miles, as for 7,000, that could be pushing the limits, i dont care how long they say its supposed to last, why not change anyways??

That is what I've always done with my synthetic oils... but it begs the question then why pay more, even if it's minimal (as a logical statement)?
We'll be waiting a long time before we see oil analysis on EDGE 0w30 too... i'll put some in regardless, however.

Your spending the extra money because you care about your car and you want to put grade A quality oil in it for the longevity and abuse we put our cars through everyday.. And like i said i would say Motul and Castrol Edge are probly the top two oils you can use in your VQ.

Castrol full synthetic... every 5k miles. No problems, and NO, notta, NONE buildup of any kind when I dropped the oil pan at 35kmiles and took the heads off.
My sentra ran the same oil (now it’s VQ anyway) when it had the QR NA and turbo. I never found any metal or sludge all the way up to 91k miles (65kNA, rest turbo) that is until I sent the crank one way, the valves another, and the piston up, up and away.
QRs drunk mobil-1 like you forgot to put the oil plug back on after a change.
