Default 2007 Z transmission issue in 6th gear?

well now, besides my day to day 5 minute trip to work and back, the Z hasn't gone through much, I have 11,500 miles now and last night I noticed when shifting from 2 to 6th, it grinds at anything over 2K RPM. now I didn't think that would hurt the synchronizers or gears. I'm not shifting 1-2-3-4-5-6. just jumping from 2 to 6. any other gear to 6th does not do it.
So, calling Nissan today hoping they will fix it, just seeing if anyone else has any insight or issues as well.

One, may i ask, why are you shifting from 2nd to 6th? Are you redlining 2nd? the rpms could simply be too low to go to such a high gear. BUT i wouldnt shift from 2nd to 6th anyway. I do sometimes, after redlining a gear, jump a single gear. 3rh to 4th or such. 2nd to 4th.

not redlining, just crusiing, go onto a 55mph road. IDK? never thought it would be an issue.
as I said just for the hell of it and not shifting throguh the 6 gates where all i need to do is goto a ceritan MPH and cruise at that.
just like you go to redline in 1st and take that over 40 mph, why couldn't you put it in 6th from there? yeah it bogs down, IDK hard to explain. thought that RPMs were too high inm my opinion, at the same time if I did the exact same speed in 3rd then jumped to 6th no problem, same for 4th and of course 5th.
if I'm just an idiot who was too tired on night driving home and discuvered this that just tell me I'm being an idiot.
oh well

with all the trans trouble with these cars id say its prob yet another issue. Maybe, just hear me out, i dought its the case, your pushing down when going to sixth and actualyl going voer and engaging reverse?

My car seems less than pleased when I skip one gear. I haven't tried skipping three. My best advice would be to quit doing this and see if the problem doesn't go away.

I can hear the conversation between you and the service manager now: "My car isn't happy when I shift from 2nd to 6th." "When you do WHAT???" Even if you do have a genuine problem here, I don't think you'll get anybody to take your side of it because you're using your transmission in a weird way. Just a thought.

You are forcing the sixth gear synchro to take up a lot of speed by going from a high rev situation in 2nd to the very low revs in 6th gear. You are gonna get some accellerated wear if you do it all the time.

GM actually has something like this on some of their cars that forces you into a gear. My last car was a 05 Pontiac GTO. It has something from GM called "skip shift". Included are also the Corvette, Camaro, Firebird, G8, blah blah blah... When shifting between lets say 1800 and 2300 from first, it will lock out all gears but 4th and force you to go there. Normal shifting was about 2000 each gear unlike my Z where I find 2500-2700 to be its happy place. But anyways, it was put there to be a gas saver for slower driving around town. I thought it was stupid cause it messes with your driving big time. Almost everytime I shifted from 1st! Will it save gas? I dont see why not....

Yeah, skipping gears is hard on your synchros.

I am convinced that the 350z xmsn was made under a horrible concept as far as how the syncro's were designed. I have been through three xmsn's and now my fourth one is doing the exact same thing my last three did grind going into 6th gear at any rpm over 2500 it starts in fifth on the highway so everytime I will check other gears going into sixth and it doesn't for a little while but eventually it starts doing it from every gear and then it starts grinding going into fifth just horrible xmsn's!

Basically what I am getting at is your syncro problem is just going to get worse till you can't handle it anymore and just take your car to a dealer and they will change it under warranty. hope this helps

roger that,
Taking it in today to the get the manager to drive her around. but Iknow find out that after sitting for the 8 days not driving, it ran well fo the first 5 minutes, then 3,4,5 gear all did it going into 6 over 2k rpm. the trans is messed up, and only 11k on the clock, shouldn't happen, I litterally drive 6 miles every time i drive it to work, not hauling *** and all that. hopefully this will be resolved. once fixed no moreskipping to save a little gas, just will have to change my driving

I've got 35k on my HR and I've not had any issues with the exception of the slave cylinder.... I've been to the drag strip, deals gap, skyline dr, and everywhere in between. Hope it gets fixed for ya man.

There was also a recall in 07 models with the gearbox / trans. Did you get that taken care of?

The 07 synchros are a bit suspect which is likely the reason why you are having the problem but any technician will quickly tell you that the 1st to 6th shifting is going to accelerate any problems with your trans. Its not a good idea to skip 4 gears even if you were redlining 1st. When you do take it in I would not mention anything about the skipping gears as it could make getting a warranty repair more of a headache.

Tookinto the dealer today and road with the service manager, told him the issues and he understood better then the techs, toldhim jumping 4th to 6th no good and after finding an area to get 5th to go over 3500 rpm, it did the same thing, grinding bad going to 6th, firs time I noticed 5th do it.
he asked about trans fluid, but that was no issue, and ordered a new trans for the Z.
now when I get that in next week, going to look into some really good fluid to place in that instead of the OEM fluid. heard good things about Motul and Amsoil, any opinons please throw my way.
so we'll see how this ends up.

My 07 Z does the same thing you are describing, I guess maybe I should check into the issue with my dealer as well and see what they say about it. Mine only has 13l miles on it and I noticed it starting when it was around 9k, I just stopped shifting into 6th with the revs over 2.5k and that seemed to make it not grind anymore when skipping gears.

I'll be on the look-out for any grinding, thanks for the heads up. I am at about 11k now.

Can you provide any recall information? (TSB or recall #) If this is something mandatory, I would like to get it looked at sooner rather than later.
