Default VQ35DE past 100k miles?

I am considering purchasing a 04 350z with 110k miles. Says mostly highway miles, no FI. Timing belt was changed at 80k. How much more life can i expect from the VQ35DE past 100k miles?

Reconsider who you're buying from. There are no timing belts on VQ35DEs.

ok to clarify... i guess the seller doesnt know engines too well, just talked to him. Once he said, "ya i changed the timing belt and the alternator belt when i had the pullys changed, i'll show you when you get here" he's obviously not talking about the timing belt, considering its chain anyways, which i dont think needs to be changed at all. Back to my orginal question, how is the reliability past 100k miles. Im new to this car and engine so bear with me.

It's a good question but i have no accurate answer. Google a warranty company. Put in the numbers and get a quote. That will give an idea about reliability - maintenance costs.

Don't worry about it.

The question about reliability- miles -price is common. There is no definitive answer. What I am certain is that you will pay now or pay later. Now for the same car with 55,000 miles. Later for this car in repair costs.

There is no free lunch.

I would barely consider buying a car for 50k miles, but over 100k I wouldn't even touch that thing.

this is true.........nissan engineers design criteria stated that the VQ was to be designed to last "in excess of" 200k miles.......

It's their bread and butter engine dude.....A VQ of some varient is in like 10 vehicles of the Nissan model line...

Now, the story behind a 110k mile Z, being a sports car, with my technical ability and know how, i would purchase no problem for a track car...but thats me...............but if you don't, then have a mechanic give it a compression test, alternator check, check for leaks at all points/diff, rear main seal, etc.., inspect bushing all over the car, etc..etc...

is the previous owner giving you all the maintenance records of the car?

My brother has 160k mi on his 03 6MT Maxima (VQ35DE). Engine sounds same as when it was new. Burns 3/4 quart of oil every 3,500mi. I made him change the original plugs at 140k miles, and that was a waste of time, they looked great! He did find little oil on 2 of the coil packs, and I advised him to pull the valve covers and change the gaskets, but he didn't care. Car is on the original tranny/clutch also, and it trips 'em in third no problem. Never had any problems with this car/engine, and has only repalced fluids, tires, brakes, belt once, battery once, and light bulbs. And he doesn't baby it either.
Good luck
