07 HR Clutch Slipping at 40k?!
Just started slipping earlier when i was going uphill in 5th gear. Was around 3k rpm when the rpm shot up a bit. Slips more noticeable in higher gear lower rpm vs low gear higher rpms. not sure if normal?
There was no obvious signs until today. I bought the car with 29k miles and it now has 40.7k miles. I'm the second owner.
I have yet to launch the car or do anything too clutch abusive to it. I start off in first gear around idle rpm every time I take off and never rev past 2k on hills, so i'm positive it's not my driving that caused it to slip so early.
I'm either guessing the previous owner drove it hard or had bad habits.
ANYWHO, anyone reccommend any clutch kits and or shops in the portland/vancouver area? maybe even seattle. forgot to mention my future goals are to get test pipes and intake and a tune. currently have a invidia gemini. guessing a stage 2 kit from ACT or exedy or something?
also should I buy a flywheel while im at it. no idea if current flywheel can be resurfaced.
Picture of car for no obvious reasons. OH, and the car is all stock besides an exhaust.

sorry I can't productively contribute to your thread, but for a stock car it sure does look dropped. Maybe its the rims?
There's a pretty sweet JWT clutch/flywheel combo deal in the classifieds with one of the vendors. I'm definitely hopping on that in some time.

going on a mandatory vacation despite going on vacation a month prior, would like all the money I can get. if the flywheel can be resurfaced that will save me $300+.
and yes i will probably upgrade the csc as well.
thanks

You can't resurface a stock flywheel (dual mass is too difficult). JWT combo is the best bang for your buck, plus it has a replaceable flywheel disk. Any competent shop or garage mechanic can install it...no need for a specialty shop. Just make sure the flywheel is aligned properly or it won't run!!! LOL

I'll give u few links to the VQ35HR Clutch and flywheels check it out. And I definitely recommend that u get a full metal Concentric Slave cylinder from zpeedperformance as a upgrade and never worry about it failing on you.

+1, your clutch is slipping like others have said. Here is a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9I9Qv...eature=related
There are many threads on clutch slips. The good news is, you have an opportunity to upgrade your clutch as other posters said. Just do it all at once so that you have peace of mind knowing that it's got a fresh flywheel and new clutch. The bad news is it's going to cost you. From what you posted, it seems like the previous owner hasn't been treating the clutch too well. The JWT setup is really good because if your flywheel wears out, you just have to replace a separate disk rather than replace the whole unit. Just keep searching on what you want in a clutch as far as driveability and whatever else you have in mind. Good luck.

thanks for the help guys!
looks like im narrowing it down to JWT unless i find that a vendor on here is having a sale of something else.
And regarding the video, mine does not slip that bad, yet....... I will baby it as much as I can until all parts arrive after my vacation.
i'm just fearing the rush hour traffic i deal with everyday after work.

I bought an ACT Lightweight flywheel and HD clutch at the same time, yes it was expensive ($1,100) but glad I did it. Like everyone else says get the CSC, maybe do a stainless steel braided clutch line and new fluid. It's expensive now but saves in the long run just to do it when the tranny is dropped.

^ thank you. i will more than likely just go for the zpeed one. an extra $200 for some piece of mind as opposed to a factory one.
oh and oddly today the clutch has not been slipping at all. i will bring it to the dealership to adjust the clutch engagement. I have done it once myself but didnt adjust it too much as i was afraid of messing it up and having the clutch ride itself.

UPDATE: clutch stopped slipping despite my efforts. put it in 2nd and floored it to see if it would. not at all. drove it up the same hill it started slipping at the other day in the same gear and rpm and still nothing.
did research and found some stuff on it being the throw out bearing or csc.
any other ideas guys?
