Default Any Benefit With Going Smaller (Wheels)?

i got the stock 17's, and was just wonderin if it is viable. would my brakes fit? i'm all about performance, so the looks would not bother me. should i just get some light 17's instead? thanks.

Benefit would be that a 17" wheel of the same type as an 18" wheel will weigh less, and tires in general are cheaper.

The performance advantage is that the smaller wheel has less rotational momentum so it's quicker to spin up.

right; i was just wondering if smaller would effect handling. if there are no cons, and they fit, i might get some 16's.

Do you ever plan on getting a BBK? If yes, I would go with some light-weight/wide 18" wheels (which can accomodate the BBKs) and match them up with some UHP wide-profile tires (for cornering). If no, I would stay with the 17" wheels but I would find a lighter/wider version and match it with some UHP wide-profile tires as well. I agree with baptist that it may look a bit silly with 16" wheels on the Z but as they say...."To each his own". Good luck!

i doubt i will even need bigger brakes; this is just a street car. i'm lookin for a little more response from my car, that's all. i need new tires, so i was figuring i could do a package with wheels and mayb get some performance benefits, too.

17s are small enough IMO.

You're into performance? I supose you're going to lower it as well. You'll be scraping ALOT. Plus the difference is not noticable and not worth it. Get yourself some very lightweight 18 inch wheels. If i were you i'd be focusing on finding the lightest wheel, rather than the smallest. Smart idea.

It would look foolish as well.

Definetly dont go smaller than 17s. But, a nice set of lightweight 17" racing wheels would be fantastic. Maybe get a slightly larger profile tire to fill up the gap. What do you gain in staying 17"? Faster spin up and the wheels will be cheaper, as for tires no big diff. I've seen 18" tires CHEAPER than 17 inchers, its all about what people are buying and what they aren't. Keep this in mind as a beefy 275 width tire could actually be cheaper than a 225 tire that every granny gets for her corolla.
