Default HELP!!! Real quick question about swapping tires...I think the dealer is BSing me...

I'm finalizing a deal on an '05 SB Performance today and the only thing I'm not too crazy about are the 18" Nissan chrome rims on the thing. I asked the dealer to swap them out for a set of stock rims off another Performance on their lot and he said it couldn't be done because of all the labor involved with mounting the TP sensors. Is this true? He said it would cost about $300 in labor and ultimately I'd only be coming out about $600 ahead on the deal. I don't think that's true and I can't believe the job is that hard to do. Can someone explain what's all involved in changing these tires out? Do the TP sensors have to be remounted? I wouldn't think so since the new tires already have TP sensors. I appreciate your help!

I agree with you, I'm not to keen on the Chrome 18" rims compared to the clearcoated ones. I know that each sensor must be registered as FR LH, FR RH, RR RH, and RR LH in order to report back the PSI back to the computer. I'm not sure if it is as easy as just swapping tires, but even still...the $300 labor seems kind of steep. All you do to register sensors is connect a Consult-II to the car and use a Transmitter Activation Tool. That shouldn't take longer than an hour. At worst case scenario, maybe two. So he's charging you $150 an hour?

It would cost about 60-100 dollars at most tire places. You just have to mount and dismount 2 sets of wheels. The TPS go on and off in like 5 seconds.

yup, my Nissan dealer charged me $64 to take off my stockers and remove the TPS then put them in my new wheels and mount and balance them. Your dealer is a crook.

It's Tom Wood Nissan on the North Side. The guy's actually been pretty cool the whole time until I asked him to do this...now the shadiness begins. The worst place by far was Hubler on the South Side.

Hubler were such dikcs to me it wasn't even funny. I scheduled a test drive and talked to the sales guy for about 2 weeks (and drove all the way there from Terre Haute) ... when I got there, mind you this was over 2 years ago ... they were like,

Son, do you know how much this car costs? I really can't let you drive it. Dikced with me for about 20 min before I walked right on out of there.

I drove back the next week with a brand new CS Track and told them thanks for the incentive to shop elsewhere.

I ended up buying in NY just because it was easier and I had previous history at that dealership. I did give Indy a shot at service too (since TH couldn't help) and they were just the same (Tom Wood this time) ... trying to nickel and dime me for everything. I guess they just can't respect a kid that buys his own car.
I have since graduated from Rose and now I am out in CA ... where I am lucky enough to have both Mossy Perf. and Perf. Nissan within driving distance

As long as the other car uses TPS sensors as well, there is not problem. It's just a matter of labor to swap the rims and tires, no problems.
We'd do it i'm sure.
That dealer is just trying to get the extra $$ out of you, if you don't want the rims, dont' buy the car, that's how sales makes extra money. If they want to make the sale to you, then they'll work with you.

Do they even have to switch the TPS units if both cars have them? Just do a wheel swap, take about ten minutes if they are slow. (I hate impact wrenches, but they do work quickly)
