Default Great Article about balancing the Z, applies to G35 I suppose... (a true must read)

Sounds like the best combo is the same size on all four... 18X9 25mm offset rear, and 18X9 30mm front. This article says to use a 275/40/18 which reads 1.5mph faster , I disagree... a 265/40/18 which reads .6mph faster is much closer to stock diamater, plus less sidewall buldge. This article was able to get 1.0g on the skid pad with simply using the same tire size combo and a set of sway bars from Hotchkis(sp?). No springs or coil overs or anything else was added.

They changed the slip differential also. I wonder how much of the results is contributed by the differential.

If you read the Letters to Ed. in the June 05 issue a Z owner writes in and tells how he wants to run the same set up on his car as they did in that article. They really berate him by saying why the hell would you want to run the same size tires all the way around and were did you get a crazy idea to do that! Then they go on to say that even though that set-up was very good on the skid pad it was squirrely to drive on the street.

I think their driving issues stemmed from the LSD setup they were using. What do you think?

Is that magizine online? I'd like to get a subscripton to a Z mag.

SC is a pretty good read...I will renew my subscription when it comes time.

The last few issues have focused quite in depth on how to make your car handle better. The Z is used in all the example illustrations but unfortuantely not so much in the text.

The issue with there project car has to be having 275's on the front. For daily driving this would have to tramline like a ****. They also recently tested all there project cars against each other on a day that happened to be raining and the Z with it's wide summer tires hydroplaned like a **** scoring one of the slowest track times. They later say that if it had been dry it would of killed...but such is the trade-off in daily driving.

Yeah I did not think about traming much. I had a 97' COBRA that did that when I put on 275's all around. Well back to the drawing board. Also considering I live in a wet winter / spring environment, I had better stick to the staggered pattern. Fooey!

I have been running 245/40-18 in front and 245/45-18 in the rear every since I used up my OEM tires. Even with no other change that helped the balance quite a bit on large tracks. Still wasn't very good for AutoX though.

I just added the Koni Yellow shocks and the Hotchkis sways (med in front and soft in rear) and will test them out at an AutoX in a couple days.

For AutoX, my race tires are 265/35-18 front and rear, and I have not yet seen any issues with VDC (although I turn it off during the actual race). However, I usually drive 80 miles to and from the events and don't see issues during that time.

Anyhow, I think SCC is a great mag for mods, because they really go into the changes well. I think they are on the right track with the Z's mods, although I read in a later issue that they thought the med setting on the rear was a bit too stiff for big tracks (too much oversteer). Maybe that's why they thought it was a bit of a handful on the street.

Anyhow, thanks for the article. I was looking for that recently so I'm glad you posted it.
