Default Anybody put stock rear wheels on the front?

I have a set of 4 rear track wheels. Are their any issues of putting rear wheels on the front?

It depends. What do you drive? VDC or TCS or neither?

Not a good idea. VDC expects to see taller tires in the rear, and reacts poorly to the same size wheels and same size tires all around.

I plan on running 295/35-18 for the rear (26.1") and 245/40-18 for the front (25.7"). I'm hopeing this will work.

as has been mentioned before, it will be fine to run 4 track wheels, but it's your tire choices that are the problem (i see 4 potential problems)

1. you are not going to safely fit a 295 width tire on a stock track rim
2. your rolling circumference is wrong (VDC likes to see stock circumference stagger - stock for the 2003 make year is 26" front 26.7" rear), although some have reported no problems with VDC with non-stock setups. so you MAY not have a problem, but if you want to be safe try and get close to stock diameters. or alternatively, turn your vdc off.
3. your speedometer will read wrong
4. with 245 front and 295 rear, you are going to have a change in handling towards understeer. unless you are a go straight guy (drag), then this would not be desireable for handling purposes

hope that helps

I had my 8.5" wheels widen 2". 10.5" total. I am concerned about the VDC. I don't want to have problems. I want to disable it compleatly. Anyone know how?

I have 4 rear track model wheels all around. I have the stock 245/45/18 tires and I track the car. I have never had a problem with VDC or anything.

Also, forgot about trying to put 295/whatever on these wheels, they will not fit. The most I would safely put on them is a 265/40.

I posted a comment, then realized that another member had covered the subject, so I deleted my post. Hence the word “delete.”

ok what? You widened the stock wheel??? For the cost of that you could have bought some better wheels probably.

I run 265/35/18s on my stock track wheels on all four corners and that is the widest I would ever go on an 8.5" rim. The over hang is not desirable.

I'd like to see pictures of these "widened" track wheels.

It only cost $175 each. Find me a better wheel for that price. Here are the pics. I am getting them painted glossy black right now. When I get them back, I will post more pics.

the pictures do help illustrate what you have
i will add a couple more problems now

#5 - you added 2 inches on the inboard side of your hub. the track rims are +33 offset in the rear to start with (ie. tucked in). i hope you did your measuring, because you are going to be awfully close if not on top of your struts with +33offset +2inches +295 tire.

#6 - i don't know since i've never done that to a wheel, but how strong is that?

EDIT - sorry, i saw the comment, "you better use that 1.5" spacer" - add that size of a spacer to the list as problem #5.2

I did measure. I have a 15mm spacer for the rear. If the wheels have 0 camber they will be flush. 1.5" or 25mm will be too much. I would have to camber the f out of it to clear. I did put the wheel on without the tire. It had plenty of clearence. it should be fine.

As far as how strong will they be. Supra and Mustang guys do this all of the time. I had them done bt this company: http://www.weldcraftwheels.com only time will tell.

wow, looks cool. I might consider doing that. My only question then is, why would you want to run such a wide tire in rear and then a skinny tire in front. If you plan on tracking the car and have 10.5" wheels all around I would run the same width all around. Like a 275/35's on all four corners would rock. Show us pics when they are mounted.

Yeah that seems like a really good idea, if it proves to be as strong as the original wheel. Another thing I would be worried about is if the wheel is still balanced. I love the stock track wheels, but I wish they were are 9.5 instead of an 8.5.
