My original Potenzas (RE040's) are really worn on my two rear tires (size 245/45/18). I'm looking to replace them and here are my options and issues with each...

1) Get 2 different rear tires...I'm leaning towards Nokian WR All Weather Plus. They're 100V rated though, so I'm not sure how this will work. What will happen if I put two different tires on the back and run the Potenzas on the front? Is this a big deal?

2) Buy 2 replacement Potenzas to match my old ones. The issue is that the old ones wore down after 17k miles. I noticed there are different models of Potenzas. What's the difference? Is one more durable? Will they last me longer?

3) Buy 4 all new tires...this is gonna cost me over a G though and right now I'm not really feeling this option. Anyone have a more cost effective option? If I buy 4 tires, they definitely won't be Potenzas. Also, can I trade in or sell my front Potenzas? They're still fine.

get new rims + tire package. keep your OEM wheels with potenzzas for back up.

 

Riding on different tires in the rear shouldn't give you any problems. Really all that will happen is they will look different from the ones in the front. But as far as getting 4 new tires in the stock size I am pretty sure you could get all 4 for under a grande.

 

Go to www.tirerack.com or www.discounttire.com to see prices. I found 4 dunlops for under 550 bucks. Installed that would put you around 600. You can always change sizes to go with a tire in your budget.

 

what was the model Dunlops you found? won't smaller wheels require new rims?

 

No problem replacing the rears. I would check the classifieds...there's always someone selling tires....I've already seen fairly new OEM wheels....all 4 w/rims for about $400.00. lol

 

Don't remember what model just do a search on Tirerack for the stock size. Wheels and rims are the same thing. And no you won't need a different wheel if you go with a smaller tire.

 

Different brand tires on the front and rear? Its OK but the car will handle differently. Can’t tell you if it will be better or worse, but it will be different.
