Painting Calipers = Rice?

Painting Calipers = Rice?
So a friend of the family is going to help / teach me how to change your own brakes (and also he will get my rotors polished or redone)
He told me that it would be a good idea to paint my brakes and some other parts around them so that they dont rust up and look crappy. He did this to all his cars. Some he painted red, some black, some both red and black. And it looks good.
But is it rice? Will it get looked down upon? I mean honestly do not have the money or need a BBK. And its not like im buying those fake bremo thing you cover your calipers with.
I remember seeing someone who was using nismo pads and painted his calipers and actually got a nismo logo painted on them (which looked pretty good IMO)
Just want to know the opinion of others.

Paint isn't rice if you stick with "normal" colors. I wouldn't go with anything like green, blue, gold, yellow, etc. I thought about doing it myself. Oh, the guy with the nismo on his caliper...it was a high temp resistant sticker IIRC.

^+1 As long as you go with a color that matches the car and/or wheels, or your basic black/silver type colors you'd be fine. If you go with a flashy color like yellow or red I think you indicating you have aftermarket brakes = rice! Placing a Nismo sticker on them I feel is also trying to say you have aftermarket brakes = rice!
Make sure to use a high heat resistant type paint!
I color matched (That weird green) my 96 Pontiac GP brakes which turned out nice imo. I also painted my 7th gen celica brakes chrome silver which turned out nice as well.

yeah man its a bit gay
especially if you paint them red
id just spray them matt black to clean it up. Tape up and do the disc hubs too
and use a scouring brush and plenty of acidic wash to clean the caliper

thanks for the opinions!
Yea i will NEVER EVER EVER get a BBK cuase i dont need one really. I still have Stock wheels and will prob keep them stock.
As for the color... i wasnt gonna pick anything flashy. Maybe Silver, maybe Black, Red came across my mind but like everyone said its kinda flashy. Who knows.
Right now im just thinking about it. Im only getting my front brakes done so if I paint them red it would just look wierd =\

G2 caliper paint kit from tirerack.com, its like $42 and everyone thinks they came from the factory that way. Also JVD graphics has 350Z (which I have) and they used to have Nissan too for vinyls... had them on about a year and no problems with the paint or vinyl... always get complements.

Off topic: I saw a few people using the dupli-color heat spray paint... how did they manage not spraying the rotors? I find it hard not overspraying the other brake parts even masking those parts nicely....

I don't think it's "rice" if done tastefully. Obviously any newb is going to know they are stock brakes that have been painted. I've seen some painted stockers that turned out looking very nice.

i either sprayed the paint on a brush or was very careful. i did get a little on the rotor but it wiped off with some 3m adhesive remover i had lying around. i only masked off the two spokes of my wheels i was spraying in between everything else got sprayed
