Default 245/40 18 f 245/45 18 r

Thats the combination I finally decieded on with the limitations of the Rays and toyo T1-S.

Reasons are:

no 255 or 265 in 40 aspect ratio for rear.
275/40 on rear really needs a 9.5" rim.
275/40 on back looks great, but creates to much rolling resistance for stock power output (IMO).
245/45 up front has to much sidewall (IMO).

I sure hope my computer likes the 1 inch difference between the front and rear. I'll let you all know in a week after I mount them.

I know, I know. Your thinking "just keep it stock". But those toyo's are darn nice tires, and I'm not ready to spend money on 19"s and foot wide tires out back (look good however).
Just dont twist that carbon fiber drive shaft trying to do a burn-out.

I think you have to have some difference in width front to back for the ABS and VDC to work properly. Do a search on the subject as I am too lazy. I remember seeing some guidelines for different tire sizes. I would also contact your dealer's service dept. and get their input before you buy tires that might not work all that well for your car...

I dont believe tire width would have anything to do with VDC, handleing dynamics certainly, but not the computer stuff.

I think I will call the dealer come monday and see what the mechanics have to say about different tire sizes, I truly dought any thing significant will come of it.

It's to bad no one knows for sure, I guess I will find out.

I think this set up should work fine. Overall tire diameters is almost exactly the same as stock.

I cant imagine the computer being so sensitive as to pick up a .3 inch difference.....but I could be way off base.

I mean come on, does Nissan expect the kinds of people who purchase these types of cars to run the stock tires forever? They must know better.

Racerboy has potenza S0-3's in 245/40-18 and 255/45-18, so I'm sure you will be fine with the stock tire size in back.

I've seen a few other posts with those same time sizes, and I myself plan to go with the T1-S in the 245/40 and 255/45 combo.

You'll be fine.

Racerboy races his car also (probably with VDC off). Regardless, if something funny was hapening I'm sure he would have detected it by now.

Thanks

Default I'm drawn to the Toyos, but...

From everything I've heard here, the Toyos are great tires, but I've decided to use up these crappy RE-040s as fast as possible and get S-03s in the stock sizes next. This way I'll get familiar with a superior tire in the stock size first. Then I may try out the Toyos when the S-03s are used up.

My big dilemma will be whether to change out the RE-040s before I go to Mid-Ohio for a 3-day NASA HPDE in April. They probably won't be anywhere near worn out (I only have 3,200 miles now) but it seems a shame to run that nice track with these less-than-perfect tires.

The problem is that the weekend is already costing me about a grand, and adding another $800 or so will be tough.

So I'll see how the RE-040s do on my first track day at Summit Point in March and decide after that.

I had an awesome time at Laguna Seca with the RE-040's. Of course, I'm used to pickups, but stayed very close to my friends M3 and just a bit further from Racerboy and his S-03's.

I was thinking that the track day would help wear out the tires, and it sure did. I now have 10000 miles with two days at Laguna and three Auto-Xs. Unfortunately, it looks like I have another 5000 left at least.

I personally would have a difficult time getting brand new tires and them beating them up on the track right away. It seems to me like you have a great opportunity to really beat on the existing tires and then put the nice new ones on afterwards.

Either way, I'm sure you will have a great time. I know I did.
