Default Dumb Tire Pressure Question

This is probably a dumb question, but oh well. When changing to different brands of tires from stock, will the level of pressure needed for daily driving depend on the type/brand of tire?

Use the 35psi manufacturer number as a base, and adjust to your liking.

As long as tire size is the same psi would be the same. I don't know about when tire size differs from OEM.

I went from the stock potenzas to BFG KDW's. Sizes are identical but to me the sidewalls on the BFG's are taller. Might just be my imagination. I know that the max pressure of the tire is 51 psi. When I picked it up they had them at 41 psi. I guess my biggest concern is having them at the stock 36 psi going to effect tire wear or performance?

For daily driving 35 PSI is fine. For more spirited driving, put chalk or paint on the sidewalls. You will be able to tell if you are riding the sidewalls. Adjust pressure accordingly.

Keep in mind that the max pressure is a value determined by the manufacturer that represents the maximum allowable pressure in the tire at maximum load weight. Depending on the rating, that tire on a Z is probably at half of the max load weight so in theory you could double the pressure to 100psi.

That value has nothing to do with the actual "normal" pressure that you would use. It's based on comfort, wear, driveability, etc. As stated before, start with the stock 35 psi and adjust accordingly.

For example, if you run 35 psi and start to notice that the center section of the tire is wearing quicker than the inner/outer sections, then the pressure is too high.

I think max pressure means just that. And 35 cold F and R is where to start as stated previously.
