a guy i over heard talking to his friends said he didnt want to spend 120beans to get wheel spacers so he went to lowes and got nut's, or washers (i forget) and put them on the bolts then put his tire on....i mean wtf? i had to share this with you. by the way it's not a 350z...go figure its a hoopty but is that even safe or anything?
sounds like the wheel won't have much bolt to hold onto if you put nuts or washers on the other side of the tire to make the tire stick out...
hahahaha..(w/e u might think its me, but i would never do that to my 350. to much money in my car to put nuts behind the tire to make it stick out)..
anyway....
he smart - for going around the 120 beans for spacers..
or stupid - for going around the 120 beans for spacers and getting (nuts or washers)..
i gotta hear some of your comments...hahaha!!!!

this shouldnt even be a question, thats beyond stupid. Universal spacers need to be put on pretty carefully or they will throw off your wheel balance. Spacers that are wide enough to warrant their own studs are usually easier to line up since the screw in to your existing lugs, but going that wide is not very safe.
To be fair, I don't see how a washer or two would hurt anything--it isn't going to make a visual difference though, either. Not that I would ever do it anyway. But having 2" of washers is pretty scary, I wouldn't want to be any where near that car. Tell your friend to buck up and buy spacers, they aren't that expensive.

Wow. Just wow...
First, spacing the wheel out just about any amount means the wheel will be off center b/c it won't be seated on the hub (same as like getting spacers that are not hubcentric and using them without centereing rings). Second, all the forces applied under cornering and such will be applied directly to the luttle nuts or washers or whatever as well as the lugs, and not distributed over the surface of the hub b/c the wheel is no longer seated on it. Third, as mentioned, you lose threads without swapping lugs... Jeez; hope this guy has good insurance and roadside assistance...

Even with some spacers the entire hub is not covered so that the rotor heat is not properly conducted to the wheel to aid cooling. Same with those funky plastic hubcentric matching rings.
The wheel mass adds [partially] to rotor mass in determing final [peak] rotor temperatures in mountain braking.

Tell you what, i am going to do this to test the theory. I will buy nuts AND washer to put on all 4 tires of my Z. To make things interesting, i am going to buy differnt sized nuts and washers for each tire and not even worry about tightening the lugnuts. i will just put them on hand tight. Then i will videotape myself while i attempt to drift in the Z. Once videotaped, i will putmyself on the worlds stupidest videos tv show, if there is one.
