Squalz, what kind of paint did you use to paint your OEM V1's? Looks pretty good for some OEM wheels.
Bmc, thats a lot of chrome for some wheels, glad you decided to get rid of those things, haha. I never did anything to my stock wheels, had my wife sell them after I deployed, decided i like my wheels, and really have no need for winter wheels. I know quite a few people though that just paint their stockers and they look good though.

 

Thank you sir. I used Duplicolor White Wheel Coating. I think the key to success was to have patience. I read multiple threads from different forums to do 1-2 light coats, 1-2 medium coats, and 1 heavy coat. Instead, I did about 7-8 very light coats, and 2 slightly heavier coats. My only regret is that I did not clear coat, but they looked so good after the last coat I didn't want to risk it.

I was very wary of running white wheels on an SMB, but I am glad I tried it!

 

Decided today to take a shot at the new fad of plasti dipping my rims.

And let me tell you it was much easier than everyone made it sound.
Took me about three hours to do everything. And I'm really pleased with the outcome. (:

In all I used 4 cans(one per rim)
Made sure I wiped them down first. Didn't wash with soapy water or anything first and they still came out great actually.

And the dip applies better when doing long smooth sprays instead of small choppy sections like I've seen te recommended. That's just me though, and it worked for me. If you want to do it however you want by all means do so, just givi g my opinion and experience.

Next will be tail lights, emblems and door handles.

Dont plastidip anything else please. your car is already nice and has a rare color, your stock wheels should have been powdercoated.

Thanks. I know I don't think I've ever seen another z in this color. I just think blacked out everything would look good. And the original plan was to powder coat but I got injured at work and money is tight at the moment. So plasti dip was the next best option. But thanks for the Input!

Do you really want to know my opinion or do you want me to pat you on the back and say good job? What I think? I think it's stupid. It's spray paint with a rubberized coating. It degrades the value of not just your car but mine. Why is this new rice fad so popular. Probably because of the increased influx of teenage drivers in the Z platform. I guess its typical seeing the retail value has been taking a dive lately. They have a Passion for modding with no funds. So they do stupid stuff to their car. Over accessorize. Paint their handles, emblems, wheels with rubber spray paint. Think it looks cool. It doesn't. It look cheap.

 

FWIW, blacked out rims and so on aren't really considered rice...

Agreed, plasti-dip is rice. Powdercoating on the other hand is not.

I spent a pretty penny to have my wheels done right and now these people are spending $10 bucks to spray their wheels to look similar to mine.

 

Well, I might agree with some part of that - you can't really make something look more expensive than it actually is. He should have tried something original. As it is, he has this purple alien looking thing going on. He'll have space creatures nesting in his tailpipe after driving around town for a few days. Should have been more careful......

 

Yes, I powdercoated my wheels semi-gloss black. I'm not sure why he insinuated I was saying blacked wheels are rice, I was just saying plasti dip is rice. I myself have blacked wheels. It really isn't that expensive and is very good at referbing the wheel. They did a sand blast of the wheels and then a powder coating. It was $40 a wheel for me and corrected the curb rashing and dulled paint of my stock Rays.

Wow that looks really close to Ray's bronze. Nice job. So since you sprayed plastidip first does that mean you can still peel all this off?

 

Yup, I can peel all of this off and go back to stock in 5-10minutes for all 4 wheels.

 

what is the product info for this color? i didnt know they made bronze. Might try this on my ce28n's temporarily
