Default Can I get a hand with a TPS question

I have had Enkie's on my 04' track model and bought a set of OEM 35th Anniv. rims to put on the car for daily driving. However, the TPS system is not displaying anything. Is there something special I have to do to get the TPS system to display the pressures?

Thanks in advance for the fourms help with this...

Did you transfer the sending units from the old to new wheels?

Yes, you have to take the car to the dealer and have them initiate the TPS to your car. It's like bonding a bluetooth headset to a phone. My local dealer charged $40. It's not something you can do yourself either. It requires the Consult II and and x-mitter that the tech uses on the valve stem.

You're assuming that the set of wheels he bought came with the sensors installed. That's not always the case. If they didn't come with sensors, then he must move the sensors from his old wheels to the new ones. That doesn't require dealer intervention if done properly.

The answer is yes. The sensors did come on the wheeels I bought.
So if I am hearing you right, I need to plan a trip to the dealer as they are the only ones with the tools to re-initiate the TPS system.

So I have to do this every time I switch from my track rims and tires to street rims and tires, and vice-versa? Or is it a one time sync'ing of the sensors and the system in the car? And if it is a one time deal, if I bought 4 more sensors for my track wheels, can they sync all 8 sensors at once so this does not have to be done again?

Good question Dave. I never had the original wheels. I bought the car used with the track wheels on the car...so the system has never worked.

The car only recognizes 4 sensors. If you were to swap back to your old wheels, the same problem will occur with them. It's gonna get expensive if you swap back and forth regularly. Most people keep the sensors on the daily driver/street setup. Alternate wheels that are used occasionally don't get the sensors and you live without the pressure reading for a while.

I just read through the WT section of the service manual. I saw no mention of how many TPS IDs you can have. I would think you can have only 4. I have my original 06' wheels in the attic and have never tried putting them on since, I had my LMGT4s initiated to the 06'.

Its possible that there are no sending units in the wheels.

The sensors are incorporated into the valve stems. They can be installed on some wheels but not all because of design. You can have the sensors strapped into the wheels though if need be.

I like your thinking Dave!....I checked when I bought the wheels and they are there. But you had me thinking for a second.
