Default How do you attack hills?

I'd like to know the method the majority of Z owners use to go uphill - using e-brake or half-clutch? Thanks

let the clutch out until its about to engage, then let go of the brake and quickly, but lightly apply the gas and let the clutch out more to engage it

Let out the clutch while giving it a bit more gas.

Up it goes, gotta love the VQ's torque

Maybe it's just me, but it's pain in the *** to anticipate the green light when your uphill. Usually i half-clutch like 20 seconds before it turns green. I can hear the engine shaking, is that really really bad for the car? --coming from a 2 month Z driver

Sweet ! You're riding your clutch. Don't worry, by the end of the summer you'll get a new one...

Seriously, don't do that !

With practice, you can "catch" the car smoothly the way the guys explained.

Using the e-brake is the easier way. Just don't let go of the little button to lock it! It can sometime jam... hehe.

If the slope is very steep, I usually go for the e-brake myself.

I hear ya and that's totally normal. I've had the Z for over 2 yrs now and encounter this steep hill in my commute every morning which, of course, has a stop light/intersection right at the 'summit'of this friggin mountain-ish hill! PAIN IN THE ***. Especially when wet! So, I've definitely spun the rears a few times bc of the Z's 'massive' HP/Torque, and because I rev really high before locking into 1st Gear. But I'd rather that than stall-out with a car right on my ***, like the way some of these idiots in NJ drive.. seriously, don't know how they get licenses, some of these ppl.. . But ANYWAYS, the 'rattling thing,' I know exactly what you're talking about. That's like the 'fine line' between my high revs into 1st and your car just flat-out STALLING, which is just embarrassing. 'Sometimes' I can make a smooth and kick-*** transition into first, AND still looks good to the 'public eye' as opposed to the other scenario. And on that note, I don't think I've stalled ever on that hill, though. Maybe once.

btw.. just saw that other post, and clutch has lasted to 28k so far

Have your clutch pedal adjusted to be just about a C hair taller than your brake padal. This will resolve your issue. When taking off, simply lift the clutch pedal about 1/2 an inch off the floor and it will start to grab, no more high stepping like a **** to get on the clutch and no more lifting 1/2 way off the floor before it starts to grab. It can be done in literally 3 mins and if they charge you it should only be like $10-$20 bucks under the table direct to the mechanic. Or do it yourself if you are small enough to get under the dash and work your hands around the tiny space alotted.

I've been driving stick for a bit over a year now I and I can NEVER get the e-brake trick right.

Half clutching is easy for me.
