Default vibration

i have had a vibration for awhile on my 03 5AT 350z. so i decided to take it to the dealer. they suggested that i bring the car back with my fartory wheels and tires. so i put them on and my vibration problem went away so its definately the wheels. the wheels i have r Sevas S22 20" what can i do to make the vibration go away? i've heard that it could be the hub spacer cuz the one i have on is plastic. what do u guys think?

Possible causes...

1) Wheel not balanced (duh!)
2) Tire out-of-round ("egg", tread separation)
3) Wheel not centered on hub (no hub ring, wrong size).
4) Wheel not mounted properly (not parallel to hub).
5) Wheel warped, bent, damaged.

High speed or low speed vibration?

its a high speed vibration. all of these things have been checked except number 3. the hub right that i have is the one they put at the place where i got the wheels which is plastic. i have heard that those tend to get messed up.

Can you tell us the specific area where the vibration is occurring? Is it in the front or rear? Is it on the left or right? Once you narrow it down, then you need to find out if it's the rim or the tire causing the vibration. Or you can take it to a tire shop & they can easily find out for you what the problem is.

Vibrations are simple in that you measure the frequency spectrum and amplitude of each specific vibration and the rotational speed at which they occur and calculate the problem/solution. [the software below replaces calculations with a graph once you put in some data about car].

A bent wheel or high road force tire on a 26" [actual loaded rolling circumference required] say 25" x PI= 78.5" at 60 mph [88 ft/sec] = 13.45Hertz as measured on your vibration analyser or spectrum analyser.

Each type of defect has it's own signature.

Out of balance brake rotors [plus tires and wheels] can create 3,6,9 separate vibrations per unit with 4 tires you could have up to 36 individual vibrations some strong, some weak coming and going in and out of phase each becoming different as they heat up and cool down.

I've expanded the topic so that others can learn to identify and deal with vibrations other than a simple known wheel problem.

As to a simple vibration analyser download this spectrum analyser software and use microphone jack on your lap top...........finding a vibration sensor or microphone that will deal with 10 Hertz I leave up to you. Ebay or others.

The above with a proper vibration sensor can be as accurate as a $10-20,000 commercial vibration test system.
