Alright, here is the deal. I just got some 19" g35 rays recently. I had them installed last week. At first I had horrible shaking and the car felt very awkward. I went back to get a rebalance with the master tech. All the tires were off.

He fixed it up and the ride feels alot better, but the steering wheel shakes very bad above 70+mph. The rear tires are brand new and the front are used. I'm going back for an alighnment later during the week too.

He did notice some high low spots on the inner part of the front tires, but is it enough to shake that bad at those speeds? I mean it moves my hands like I am holding on to a lawnmower . Anyone care to chime in?

 

were the tires high speed balanced?

were the right rims and tires put on? Did you tell him they are staggered?

 

Yeah, they saw that before I mentioned it.

 

well, the two main reason why steering wheel shakes is because of the tires not being balanced and the rims not being hubcentric...and since you have the g35, i'm guessing they are. So the next thing would be seeing if you have bent rims.

Forgot to mention he did look for that as well. Anthoer thing, ever since I put on the wheels my car pulls to the right. What about the low high spots on the inner part of the tire? Will that cause anything?

 

If the fronts are used they might be completely shot.

If you have a spare set of front wheels and tires I would put them on to see if it isn't, just by coincidence, something mechanical in the steering or suspension.

 

Yeah, i mean, worn tires due to bad camber will cause steering shake but not bad as you are stating (like a lawnmower).

Also, it would take a pretty extreme flatspot to get bad wheel steering wheel shake. Flat spots kinda make your car feel rough, not necessarily with the steering. I had a good flat spot before because my brakes locked up but it didn't even cause the steering wheel to shake.

Get an alignment. Since you said it pulls the the right.

 

I still have my stock wheels and tires. They never gave me any problems. I might try that out.

 

Will flatspots make a car feel like you are driving on a bumpy road even though its smooth?

 

the flat spots will do it...or the balance is off. have someone else check the balance. the wheels may have been repaired at one time...if so, one of the wheels may be warped.

^^^^^I saw the master tech do the balancing and he was pissed off at what his workers did last week. He even took the time to show me what was wrong and how it is suppose to be. This is driving me nuts!

Well I had the tires rotated on the front. It seems to have helped a little. The tires do look pretty bad now that the inner part is showing on the outside. He noticed a very small dent that I could not tell it was there. Sigh I hate driving my z like this.

 

new tires will probably solve the problem...

Just to get some re-assurance. The small dent that he could see and I could not even make out. That should not cause anything. Right?
