Default winter rims wont fit because of a bolt!

i was test fitting some rims that i bought for winter driving. on the front hubs there is a bolt that interferes with the rims fitting tight to the hub. i remember reading something about it on this forum but couldnt find it doing a search. my question is, what is this bolt for and can i remove it without any problems?:

if you remove that bolt, it will unbalance the entire hub assembly potentially causing the brakes to fail and even worse for the entire hub to fall off.

in reality, it is just a bolt that keeps you from putting the rear wheels on the front during a tire rotation. you can safely remove it or do what others have done and just grind out a spot on your wheels to allow fitment

And, not a good idea if you have TCS or VDC.

not true. You can run 245/45/18 all around and vdc wont say a thing. Did it for a long time.

Now try to run 245/45 up front and 275/35 out back and VDC will lose its focking mind. Itll cut power because it thinks youre slipping the rears. Even with VDC off it eventually will through its hands in the air and light every light in the dash up. Imagine what its thinking when youre going 75 down the hwy and it thinks your spinning the rears.

^^ Consider yourself lucky. I did pretty much the same thing (snows 225/55-17" all around) and had no problem, until "it" finally happened. It was ugly.
