I would like to try the PS2. So far as the BF's KDW. There great, but could be a bit more sticker IMO. And are noisy as hell after you put some miles on them.

Darn… thought I had my mind made up about my next tire purchase…

This is the first time I’ve heard anyone say PS2s have sidewalls that are too soft. I only have a short experience driving a car with PS2s (an hour or less driving a Porsche Boxter with this tire), but the Michelin PS2 tire on the Porsche felt great with sidewall stiffness much better than the Goodyear F1 GS-D3s I have on my Z.

After reading your comments about the PS2, I would like to ask for more details: What was the tire pressure and what size?

They seem stiff to me

Not necessarily. As spike and I pointed out, the "stiffness" has a lot to do with the actual size of the tire, what size wheel they're on and even the amount of air pressure. I notice that mine feel like hard rubber ***** when I let the pressure get up in the 38-40 psi range. At 34-36 they feel just right.

On the street I ran about 34-35 psi... on the track, I would start with 31-32 psi COLD, and they would be 38-39 psi hot. I ran the following sizes:
front: 255/35/18 on 18x8.5" rim
rear: 275/35/18 on 18x9.5" rim

Running 255 on a 8.5" wide rim is pushing it a bit, so maybe that contributed to the "soft" feeling I was describing. I'm certainly no tire expert.. that was just the first thing I noticed with the new tires was the car 'swaying' around when I would do slaloms.

By all means, try the PS2's out! So far I've run: BFG KDW2, BFG KD, Michelin PS2, and now Yokohama AD07's. And Kuhmo MX's on the MR2 (but not on the track yet).

While not overly wide, 255's are a little wider than the commonly recommended 245's on 8˝" wheels, so that might have contributed to the feel. I'm running 255's on 9˝" front wheels and 285's on 10˝" rears.

Those stats seem very reasonable. 245/40-18” front and 275/40-18” would be closer to stock sizing, but if anything your lower profiles (35 instead or 40) should make the tire feel more stiff (I think).

It’s probably a case of perception. When I went from the OEM Bridgestones to the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3, I really felt that the Eagles were wiggly and soft. After a few hours of driving, they felt normal. After that I drove a Boxter with Michelin PS2’s, and these tires felt much more stiff than the Eagles. And then… going back to my car with the Eagles, they felt too soft. But then I got used to the Eagles, and they felt alright. For sure the PS2’s have stiffer sidewalls than the Eagles, but you get my point (and I now understand what you are saying).
