Hey ya'll! I'm in the process of buying new tires for my '05 Track FairladyZ. I'm not sure which brand of tires would be best for the 18' Rays wheel. Any opinions out there would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I run BFG KDW2 and love them. They have a 300 tread rating, good wet and dry performance and decent price.

bfg kdw2 are really good performance wise but make sure you dont want a quiet ride. these tires are loud as hell on the road.

If you can afford them, there's nothing better than Michelin Pilot Sport 2.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was thinking more towards Falkens but seems like Toyo's and BFG are beating the toll. I wanted something affordable but reliable as well....

I’m running Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 tires with an “all square setup” (245mm all around widthwise with a staggered aspect ration - 40F and 45R to insure proper TCS and VDC function). I really like this tire. It grips great on dry and wet road surfaces, runs very quietly, and provides a reasonably soft ride with the Z’s stiff suspension.

My only complaint is the rather soft sidewalls which feel a little wiggly compared to, for example, the OEM Bridgestones. I suppose the soft sidewalls are one reason the tire provides a more comfortable ride.

A better tire is the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2. I don’t own this tire so I cannot provide any information on how well it wears, but I have driven a couple of cars (Porsche Boxster and a friend’s Z) with this tire. It has all the advantages I describe for the Eagle, but doesn’t suffer from the soft sidewall feel you experience with the Eagle. The only disadvantage I see with the PS2 is cost (it’s an expensive tire).

I have ran the Kumho MX's and the Falken Azenis RT615's Both have great grip, break-away smooth, and don't cost too much. I autocross with the same tires I drive on the street so I can't comment on how long they will last with normal driving. (I go through two sets a year.)

The MX's were OK in the rain, but I havent tried the 615's in the wet yet. (I hear they are not so great in the wet though)

+1 Had them on my Bimmers - have them on my Z, just one of the best tires.

But yeah - its about double the price of a Toyo (over here)

I have driven on Toyo T1R, BFG KDW2, Kuhmo MX (no longer make them) and Azenis (Civic) and the Toyo's SUCK IMO, the KDW is an all around good tire, but the MX provided the most grip, but bad in the wet. The Azenis are DAMN gripy and good in the rain, but it was in a 07 Civic Si not the Z so not really sure.

Justin, I notice you put Toyo on your “bad list.”

Just wondering: Do you rate this tire bad because of soft sidewalls, poor wear, or something else?

Just asking (I have no real experience with this tire) because a friend is looking at Toyo T1R and asked my opinion, and I’m not sure what to tell him.
