Default Not sure if my tire set-up works

I had to purchase new tires today and I'm not sure but I think the guy from Big O Tires might have gotten the wrong tires for me. If you guys can help me out I'd greatly appreciate it. I have the GT rims 18/19 combo and the guy ordered 285/35/19 for the rears and 225/45/18 for the fronts. The front rims are 18X9 will the 225/45/18 fit or even work with the fronts. I know the rears fit fine but I'm not too sure about the fronts.

^^ The fronts (225) are too narrow. You want 245/40-18” or 255/40-18” at least.

225 front and 285 rear will make the car understeer.

that is terrible.

you are going wide on the rear and ultra super narrow on the front.

you should put a 255 on the front. at least

Thank you very much. Man I'm gonna have to call that guy up tomorrow and tell him to get me different tires for the fronts. I looked at the receipt right now and noticed that he had ordered 225's. He told me he got the measurements from my current tires but I looked again and the stocks are 245/40/18's. I think he just messed up. But that's what I get for not paying attention.

^^ He probably looked at the chart for 18x8” wheels (the common wheel size for Z’s) which are usually fitted with 225/45-18” front tires.

225 on your 9” wide wheels will be stretched. A bigger problem is teaming 225 fronts with 285 rears. The 285 rears will overpower the 225 fronts in turns. This combination would create a great deal of understeer (poor handling) and cause your fronts to wear quickly.

What worries me now is that I left a deposit and after reading the receipt it states at the bottom "No Refunds Or Exchanges" But I wouldn't consider it an exchange if I haven't even received the tires yet.

It’s certainly not an exchange. As you point out, you don’t have the tires yet. Add to this the dealer is liable here for offering/suggesting a poor setup. 225’s on 9” wheels will be stretched, and combining 225’s with 285’s will make the car understeer to the point it will “plow” in tight turns. A 245/40-18” or 255/40-18” tire in front will work well.

Thanks bro for all your help. I had them change the order this morning but it took a lot of convincing. Don't know why they gave me hell about it even though it was their mistake. But also mine for not reading the receipt before I left. They got me 245/40/18 for the front and could only find 295/35/19 that match. So since I'm not planning on lowering the car anytime soon and when I do I'll just get the fenders rolled.

I would not put a 225 mm tire on a 9.0 inch wheel but that’s just me. As members have mentioned consider 265 plus or minus 10 mm.

Will that make your TCS complain?

That 295 is going to take you for a ride. 285/35/18 was pushing it, your better suited for a 275/40/18 but a 295... more hassle than they will be worth figuring your NA and dont need the extra tire.

sorry to thread jack but dont want to start another.

Currently running 19x9.5 +17 front and 19x10.5 +18 Rear. 255/35/19 upfront and 275/35/19 rear. I think I would like to go with 285/35/19 in the rear. I understand this might cause rubbing but am willing to roll the fender if necessary.

My question is this is the size i should go with correct? 285/35/19

not 285/30/19. (saw a pic of the same wheel running 285/30/19 so got a little confused)

When you don't have a clue, blame the vendor!

there is no 'correct' size.
Each tire can fit on a range of rim sizes. My DD tires are 225f and 235r. My track tires are 275 all around. (17x7.5f 17x8r)

I agree but I have the Stillen Supercharger kit sitting in my garage. I travel a lot and usually don't have time anymore. I'm waiting on a few things before I go FI

At the moment I have 245/40/18 and 285/35/18 never had a problem with TCS. The guy told me that 295's shouldn't cause a problem. Can I trust his word... No.

^^ I’ve lost track (excuse the pun) of what you’re doing. This is really getting “screwed-up.”

If I have it right, you are now planning 245/40-18” on 18x9” wheels front, and 295/35-19” rear (changed from the original plan of installing 285/35-19” rear because the tire dealer doesn’t have 285/35-19” ).

If that is the case, it works for matching OEM tire size specifications as to overall diameter (tire height). It will work with VDC or TCS.

But, I wonder about this new suggestion your tire guy is making (295’s on the rear instead of 285’s that you originally ordered). 275/35-19” will fit and work perfectly, and that’s probably the case with 285/35-19” tires. I’m not sure about 295/35-19” tires. This size may rub during full suspension travel with your rear wheels.

I would print-out this thread and show it to your tire guy. I think 295’s on the rear will overpower 245’s on the front and push your car into an understeer situation when you turn-in hard during cornering.

Actually, you should ask for a full refund and go to another tire shop that knows what they are doing and stocks a full line of tires.

I did just that... My buddy called me right before heading to the tire shop when I asked him to find me some 285/35/19 tires. He found them with in 2 minutes of searching. I went to Big O Tires and requested a refund. The manager came out telling me that they can't refund money on special ordered items. Finally I had it and demanded my money back. Went down to my buddy's shop where he had my Falkens 452's waiting for me. I got the 245/40/18 front and 285/35/19 for the rear.

I was desperate since I had two nails in both my rears that were on run flats and no tire shop would touch nor patch them. I figured Big O Tires could handle getting me tires asap but they just caused nothing but headaches.

Adding a lot more understeer to your car FTL , 265/35-18 would have been a lot better choice for the front.
